The little rollercoaster hurls him high,
Up and down and round and round.
His darting smile and popping eyes
Will hoist his summer on hoola-hoop nights
Till the ride soon stops and he lets go,
Holding me hard the whole way home;
Where a good-night kiss will douse the flames
Whirling in his eyes this winsome day,
Reminding me of other faces he will make,
Dangling from the top or stuck at the bottom--
When I must hold back the hand that waves him on,
Watching him speed down one last tunnel.

My children have left home, but they are always on my mind. I will always watch their lives with anticipation and pride.
This is a wonderful poem. I enjoyed it immensely.
Now, this made me all teary-eyed. Very well expressed and written with a graceful simplicity that lets the pictures painted sink slowly into my heart and mind....The carnival ride turning into a metaphor for growing up and engaging life and the transition at the end from days of youth to final goodbye were beautifully done...Should make the reader vow once again to cherish every moment of life's joys with their children while they can.
Its such a wonderful thing to watch them succeed. To see them start a family and have kids. They have problems, but they will work it out. You teach them what you can and hope they remember and they do! This was a great write and it brought back a lot of memories! Anthony
