Out In The Cold
by David Pekrul
copyright 07-14-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

This incident happened to me during my visit to Germany in 1975.

In the German town of Rothenberg,
There's a little quaint hotel,
Where I was staying, having fun,
When from their grace I fell.

For I was with a friend of mine,
A girl whose name was Mary,
We came back in at two A. M.,
And that's when things got scary.

We met the watchman at the door,
And all he did was pout,
He let my Mary go right in,
But said I must "GET OUT !!".

I tried to push my way inside,
To get a little sleep,
The watchman grabbed me by my wrist,
I landed in the street.

I laid there bruised and hurting bad,
I really needed help.
To get myself inside that place
Was hopeless by myself.

I met up with eleven girls,
And told them of my plight,
They said that they would lend a hand,
So I could sleep tonight.

We met the watchman at the door,
He didn't seem to mind,
And as the ladies walked inside,
I trailed on in behind.

And that is when he spotted me,
And I was on the run,
Through the kitchen, down the hall,
It wasn't any fun.

I finally made it to my room,
The watchman on my tail,
And shakily I used the key,
While feeling kind of frail.

It's been a while since I was there,
But now the time is right,
To see that place one time again,
But this time with my wife.

David, without doubt you have a gift, well more than one. But definitely a gift for getting into trouble.
Another is making us laugh, never stop doing this please. I log on here when I wake, usually about 5AM.
It's good to start my day with a laugh.
This is wonderfully descriptive. Are you sure it was just sleep that was on your mind that night? lol :-)
Keep them coming, Brian.

David, did it never occur to you to take a companion with you on your travels, preferably a big, burly, bodyguard type? These are a lot of fun to read and must be bringing you back some great memories. You have been to places without getting into trouble, haven't you?

So why wouldn't he let you in?

I love this series of poems! So what was it that had you travelling all over? Were you in the military?
