black outline stark against the ghostly sky
a rav’ning beast of disproportionate shapes
night black his shock of hair and scarred his face
hid snuffling sadly there among the trees

when then there came a change upon the air
bright drops of starlight slid across his cheek
transforming light suffused his broken face
he felt his skin grow smooth and whole again

love’s power hath wrought this miracle tonight
fey changeling, Quasimodo, now no more
