Thanks goes out to Debra Rose for the inspiration for this story.
Good and Evil.
Can you tell what is good and what is evil? Oh, you can? What if I told you that you were evil? Would that make me right? Of course not. Good and evil are subjective terms used by people to define their beliefs, nothing more.
One person's version of good is inevitably going to be another person's version of absolute evil.Think of something good, and I guarantee another person will see it as evil.
Saving someone's life is good? Perhaps, but another may see it as interference in the natural order of things and label it as an act of evil.Is punching someone in the face evil? Maybe, but someone else may feel that the person needed a good punch in the face in order to set them on the 'good' path. Of course, that 'good' path may also be interpreted as evil by yet another person, and so on.
Let me use a classic example of 'good' versus 'evil'. Lucifer versus God.Lucifer was an angel in heaven and decides one day that he wants to rule heaven and tries to overthrow God. Can you be sure that Lucifer was being evil...he WAS sent to hell for all eternity for his attempted mutiny. he must be evil right?
Maybe not. None of us were there. We can't know the exact circumstances. Maybe Lucifer didn't like the way God was running things and wanted to take over for the good of all creation. Maybe God had become insane and Lucifer decided to risk it all in order to stop God from destroying everything.
Maybe he WAS evil, but maybe God was also evil. How else could you explain an all-loving and all-forgiving God sending one of his own angels to the torment of hell for all eternity. Sending someone to hell sounds like an evil act to me.
My point is, who can truly say what is good and what is evil? These are just arbitrary words used to make personal sense of the universe.
So it comes down to this. The only person who can judge if they are good or evil, is the individual person themselves. Only the individual can decide that for themselves. And even if someone judges themselves to be evil, others will still chose to see that person as good. Someone who thinks he is good, will be perceived by many as evil. So you see, these labels are pointless except in making personal opinions on what we encounter in our lives.
So remember, the next time you label something as 'good' or 'evil', it is only your opinion, and not nescessarily fact.
Feel free to leave any comments.
"There is no longer good or evil, black or white, we have evolved beyond that. And remember, evil spelled backwards is live, and we all want to do that,"-A quote from one of my favorite cartoons from the eighties, 'Rock and Rule'

Mmm. Most references to God ruffle my feathers, but I like this piece. I like the spin you put on God. I like it most of all because it remains neutral while invoking serious thought. If you want to explore more possibilities into this, read Anne Rice's "Memnoch the Devil". Good vs. Evil... or it's really just opinion vs. opinion. Faith vs. faith.
The difference of opinion is what will kill us all.
Well thought out. you will of course get arguments,,lol. But not from me.
Of course this all presupposes that there is a God.
If there is no God can there be any good or evil. Or is it just in our nature to be both in the right circumstance.
I have known people who have been both. They have done really good things, but also equally bad things. It just depends.
What would a soldier be classed as?
When he kills in the name of government. He is killing people he does not know. He is a hero.
If he kills someone for personal reasons, which to him makes sense. He is evil.
Why would a loving God inflict all the diseases on man and beast. Man may be considered good or evil. But animals?
I'll stop now before this turns into a book,,,,lol.
Brian.
...but think about it. Good cannot exist without evil (as I believe I told you, or maybe that was Brian), because we all need to see what evil is so we dont' become it. It's that free will thing. We also need a scape goat to blame things on. Which is why Satan MUST exist, you know? Otherwise, we would blame ourselves or God. When in truth, everything that happens can be traced back to our fault.
Our family was murdered. It's because we made an environment where those things are allowed to happen. Sure, they don't always happen because of environment. Like Leopold and Leob. But they were abused all their lives, and were homosexual lovers. And they were discrimnated against.
Evil is genius gone bored, my friend. In most cases at least.
