One Small Universe
by David Pekrul
copyright 08-04-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

They say the universe expands,
So why can’t I move on?
Since you moved out and left me here,
I sing the same old song.

I wake each day at half past eight,
In this half-empty bed,
I try to get on with my day,
A day I really dread.

From dawn to dusk I work so hard,
And do the things I must,
To keep my mind from wandering,
But I just can’t adjust.

I understand that life goes on,
But it has stopped for me,
For you are ever on my mind,
And I cannot get free.

To say the universe expands,
Is really such a myth,
For when you left, you took the sun,
And left me with a kiss.

A kiss that soured on my cheek,
For all it left was pain,
I tried to get on with my life
But all things stayed the same.

I live in one small universe,
It’s smaller every day,
I’m trapped inside this universe,
And this is where I’ll stay.

Yes you are getting better. P-N-P has created a Frankenstein. OK a Werewolf! LOL I don't know why I can only see that look now when I read your stuff. I imagine you way up north in an igloo, typing on your laptop. Kind of makes me want to visit! This was before Dovie, because I know she has straightened you up by now! Loss is always tough, but it makes you love even more passionately when you find it again. Thanks, Anthony

Ah, this is so moving and nostalgic! We are all a Universe within a Universe and the fact that one is expanding and the other may be contracting is the enigma of life! David, you're getting really good with your work! I congratulate you! Your imagery is getting sharper and sharper and your descriptive abilities are expanding, like the Universe we live in! You are also learning how to end your poems with a, "Bang." I really enjoyed reading this piece!
