I love you, I said.
She responded with Gallic shrug,
Moue, and glance
That pierced my heart.
Tears stung behind my eyes.
Astounded, my mind a blank,
Heartbeats ticked by
While I tried to find a reply.
Only a thought filtered in.
I will not let her see me cry,
I am too proud for that.
So, with short, curt, nick of head,
I turned and walked away.

When you give your heart, it is the greatest gift that can be given. When it is not received with that same thing in exchange it makes one feel lost. Love can be such a wonderful thing when shared and such a lonely thing when it is returned unopened! Anthony
I had a chainmail sent to me, about the worst things to say when someone tells you they love you. The funniest one was "I know...I love me too..."
For some reason, despite how serious this is, it reminded me of that.
Deone...your talent is so obvious in this. I truly do adore the way you write, and this hit close to home and, despite the rememberance of that chainletter, brought tears to my eyes.
Love given but not returned; this is the fear of many. What do you say when one only shrugs? She spoke no words, but left a large wound.
I enjoyed reading this.
