Jane drove as Lucien and Kaitlin sat in the backseat together.
"I never knew you could dream," Kaitlin told Lucien, "let alone communicate with one another that way."
"Oh, yes. It's our use of telepathy." He hesitated. "I can only hope she hasn't hurt anyone before we get to her." Lucien turned to Kaitlin. "I'm only glad she didn't transform you."
Kaitlin impulsively reached over to touch Lucien's hand, know he was just as nervous about tonight as she and Jane were put together.
"Lucien," Jody said from the driver's seat. "Is this the place?"
Lucien looked up and realized that the vehicle had come to a full stop. When he saw the very familiar house and surroundings, his heart nearly dropped to his stomach. "Yes," he whispered. "This is it."

Jane wasn't at all surprised to find that the door to the quiet-looking house was locked, but it was barred so tight that it was an effort for Lucien to break down.
Once they stepped inside, all three of them were greeted by the familiar woman who had attempted to kill Kaitlin the other night.
"Lucien, you've finally come, she said, a pleasant smile on her face. "However, I didn't expect you to bring your mortal friends with you."
"We didn't give him much of a choice," Jane shot back. "We were either going with him, or we weren't going to let him come at all."
"How touching that you remain such loyal subjects," Mariam pointed out before turning to Kaitlin, "especially you. I didn't think you'd want to destroy me after what I tried to do for me?"
"Which was what?" Kaitlin demanded. "Turn me into a monster like you? I would never want to be like you, even if you had succeeded."
"Oh, no; you'd rather be a weakling like your darling love here." Mariam was no longer smiling now, but snarling as she turned to Lucien. "I would have let you be if you had fed from that youth; I would have then set you free. That was what you wanted, yes? So why could you not do what you were meant to do?"
"I was never meant to kill innocents."
"Which is why you, nor your friends here will walk away from me alive."
Mariam's next movements were so quick and unexpected that no one could see her do anything until she was standing behind Kaitlin, grabbing her by the throat. Her fangs were revealed as her eyes had changed into a bright red color. "I think I'll start with this one right here."
"Not without a fight," Kaitlin hissed, taking the vial of holy water she had in her pocket and smashing it against Mariam's face.
Mariam howled in pain as she involuntarily released Kaitlin. Lucien grabbed Kaitlin, asking her if she was alright before she quietly nodded.
Lucien stalked up to Mariam, grabbing her by the neck. She was no longer so lovely, as half her face was melted and burned by the holy water. "You want to fight me, you leave her and Jane out of this. This is between us!"
Mariam gave him a hideous grin as she kicked him hard in the groin. "Then so be it," she hissed.
Lucien fell to the floor, but not without grabbing Mariam by the leg and twisting it. She cried out in pain and fell, but it healed quickly enough to heal.
Mariam then quickly took something out of her pocket, nearly stabbed Lucien in the chest with it as he heard Kaitin scream in the distance. When he realized what it was, Lucien moved out of the way so that it missed his heart, but not fast enough to miss his shoulder. Lucien cried out in pain when he realized it was a wooden stake.
Lucien slowly pulled it out, doing his best not to falter before he dropped the stake.
Overcome with rage, Kaitlin ran towards Mariam. Mariam merely smiled and pointed at her; the slight gesture caused Kaitlin to be lifted and thrown backwards by an invisible force. The voilent action caused her to hit a wall behind her. Jane quickly ran to Kaitlin's side once she saw it happen.
Knowing why Mariam was able to do that and he couldn't, Lucien took his crucifix and held it to Mariam's face. "Still practicing the dark arts? Try one of your dark magic with me!" Lucien angrily.
Mariam tried to look away from the cross, but Lucien stubbornly wouldn't move away from her. Just as when he had it close enough to touch her forehead, she then grabbed his wrist and broke it, causing him to drop the sacred symbol.
Suddenly, Mariam cried out in pain as the clock started to go off as Lucien's wrist healed.
They all turned to look, and saw that it was dawn. The sun's rays had seeped in through the cracks of the blinds and into the house, scalding Mariam's hand.
Lucien realized then what he had to do now in order to destroy Mariam.
Lucien ran right up to Mariam, grabbed her by the throat, and lifted her off her feet. "It's time to die," he mimicked her.
"If you expose me into the sunlight, then we both die!"
"So be it!" With that, he pushed her against the window, breaking the glass as she was completely exposed to the sun.
Mariam howled in pain and fear as her skin began to set on fire. Lucien looked away from the sun as he gritted his teeth while the skin on his arms started to heat up.
Finally, as she crumbled to dust, Lucien's arms were set on fire as he turned away, and he felt his back setting on flames as well. Then he felt someone throw a blanket over his shoulders and pat his arms and back.
A moment later, he passed out.

"Lucien!" Kaitlin cried as they uncovered Lucien's body. "Lucien, wake up!"
Jane stared at his hands for a long moment when she realized they weren't healing. "Something's not right here," she muttered.
"Of course something's not right here! Lucien's hurt!"
"That's just it! He should be healing!" Jane felt his heartbeat and pulse as she felt herself go pale. "Kaitlin . . . I don't know what just happened . . . but he's human now."
Kaitlin stared at Jane, not understanding.
Jane tore off her sleeve as she gave it to Kaitlin. "Hold this to his wounds to try to stop his bleeding. I'll call the ambulance. Whatever you do, try to stay calm!"
Kaitlin nodded, tears streaming down her face as she obeyed.
Jane quickly took out her cell phone to call the ambulance as Kaitlin tried everything she could to rouse Lucien to counciousness.
