So fresh a love, such joy in youth!
The first sweet blush of love can please
And save for thought with tears and truth,
My sweet and bitter memories.

From child to teen to in between,
We love and learn the expertise
Of love and want what might have been:
My sweet and bitter memories.

Like wild and vivid butterflies
That flee my soul and try to ease
Remembered pain, remembered lies:
My sweet and bitter memories.

Now in the twilight years it seems
I sculpt like some dead marble frieze
Those butterfly mem'ries lost in dreams.
My sweet amd bitter memories.

Oh, those memories of youth, how sweet they feel today, but oh, how old they make me feel. The imagery in this piece is mellowly pleasant. As I read it, it flowed easily and uninterrupted. The structure is solidly written and it hinges on a state of mind that we cannot evade. Overall, it is a beautiful and sobering piece of work.
