Darien Rafael
by Emily Garwood (Age: 21)
copyright 08-22-2005

Age Rating: 1 to 127

There you lay barely a few hours old,
All wrapped up and ready to hold,
Hands together and eyes closed,
You're exactly what we were trying for.

Darien Rafael you've been named,
Everyone looks amazed,
He's so big, and he looks just like me,
But we'll soon see.

An experience to remember,
You sleep just like Daddy,
And eat like him too!
But you're an angel a smile to people's faces.

We're home now,
You're settling in good,
Lots of sleep and lots of food,
And lots of changing too!

One day I'll tell you the story,
I was playing a game when you decided it was time,
Daddy rushed home and to hospital we went.
The whole night we waited and the next day induced.

"He'll be out by ten tonight",
At 4:26 you entered the world,
amazing the doctor,
And making me happy it was over.

Darien,
Mummy and Daddy love you,
We're going to do our best,
Never forget that, you're our special one.

*Born 13th august 4:26pm weighing 3 1/2kg and 51 cms*

Congratulations, Emily. Your life will never be the same again (but that's in a good way of course)

Well, congratulations Emily! I'm sure it was an experience that will remain with you for the rest of your life. There was a certain poise that you were able to keep throughout the poem. I sense you being careful here, not to overly narrate your experience. I noticed this. Did you mean, "Mommy," or did you mean to say Mummy precisely? Also, in your third stanza, it should be, "people's faces..." and in your last stanza, "Mommy and Daddy loves..." Over all, it this is a beautiful tribute to Darien Rafael. Congratulations once again.
