World Brigade Of Buckets
by David Pekrul
copyright 08-24-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

See the building burning,
And watch the people flee,
"Come and help to save this place",
But some just let it be.

Buckets filled with water,
We pass them hand to hand,
A small brigade of buckets,
Together we will stand.

See the people starving,
And watch them as they die,
"Come and help to save the lost",
But some don't even try.

Buckets filled with rations,
We pass them 'round the earth,
A small brigade of buckets,
But doing what it's worth.

See the nations fighting,
We worry and we cry,
"We just want to live in peace",
For no one wants to die.

Buckets filled with promise,
As people lead the way,
A small brigade of buckets,
As nations start to pray.

A World Brigade of Buckets,
As we all do our part,
Though we may never finish,
At least we made a start.

hi dave. I like this a lot. the imagery is right on the money. It's as if the more you do the more there is to do. But that's the human condition. Great rhyme and meter. I have to get off my duff and just jump in the deep end and rhyme. very good and the "Buckets filled with promises" is a very good analogy. By the way, I love Canada, I went to Windsor when I attended a union convention six years ago. I loved it. went to the yuk yuks comedy club. I know what a "Loon" is. the dollar coin, right? My home town, Baltimore had a CFL team for a few years. we won one or two CFL championships. Terry Hamm, I think was our QB. I like the Canadian game. I watch it on ESPN during the season. Very good poem. I read your poem on the night shift but I don't think my comment made it in. I too work the night shift and everything in that poem rang true for me. I work three a.m. to eleven a.m. twenty-seven years now. I'm ready to head for the daylight. good work.

Aim for the stars-hit the moon. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, but I fear that as the steps get harder, people drop out. I like the sentiments, but I'm not optimistic. I liked "buckets filled with promises". Excellent meter and rhyme.

Good write,

Rich

A well written poem with a message. Also very much in today's context. The imagery of the burning building people are trying to save with buckets of water works well as it extends to other scenes as well. The rhyme and stanzas are also consistent and well crafted.

Very laudable sentiments, we should all do what we can.
However, in the real world, to many times will the contents of most 'buckets' go directly into a Swiss bank account.
Before anything can really be accomplished the corruption needs to be stopped.
Brian.
