Paros: Land of Greece or Sub-country of America?

Every since I was little, I have loved my island of Paros. It's been a part of me. The cool blue waters, the people, the food, the fun. All of it is Greece 100%. But lately, globalization has affected Paros and Greece altogether. I see fast food places and more "touristy" shops. The beaches are crowded.

Is Paros turning American? Is America a good or bad influence? To me, and this is solely my opinion, it is a bad influence. I go outside my house, which is on a Market Street, and ask myself, "Is this Greece?"

Then I take a ferry to Antiparos, an island across from Paros. It is the same there. It is horrible. More and more tourists are cascading into my beloved homeland (not that it is the tourist's fault). One time, when I was out with my friends, walking to a beach not far from my little town, We saw people throwing trash out of the windows of their cars. My friends watched numbly as the little Doritos bag and empty box of cigarettes fell down the mountainside. We would have picked them up, but it was to hazardous.

Paros and Antiparos are slowly disappearing. Naxos (a much larger island) already has. What is happening to Greece?! Somehow, I believe, It is almost literally America.

That is happening too much, I think. A lot of places with a deep an interesting culture are becoming more 'Americanized'. Japan is the only one I really know about though, because from what I hear, their culture from back when is disappearing to Western influence. Now there aren't even many Geisha around. If there are, they only stay with it until they are married. Nobody ever really wears a kimono there anymore. It's sad, really.
