Modern-Day Reality
by David Pekrul
copyright 09-04-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Useless functionality,
Loss of practicality,
Robbed of all vitality,
Is today’s reality.

Everywhere I look and see,
People live in poverty,
Everyday technology,
Failing to provide the key.

They deserve a better life,
Free from hunger, pain and strife,
Modern living’s filled with blight,
Death and sorrow’s very rife.

Everyday brutality,
Loss of one’s morality,
We prescribe neutrality,
Modern man’s fatality.

This is our reality,
Some say, “New normality”,
Government formality,
Ruling so lethargically.

Modern days in which we dwell,
Some in 'heaven', some in 'hell',
“1980 – George Orwell”,
Of our time, he told it well.

I love it, almost perfect again just a few words tripped me up.

It seems that certain trajedies coalesce in a brief time period, and make us question our behavior and our response in other people's time of need. I must learn from all this, or risk nihilism and misery.
