I have just finished the last book of a series I have read. The author is Lurlene McDaniel. Here are some snippets from the books:
Six Months to Live:
"The Preliminary tests are back." The elderly Doctor said, his brown eyes grave with concern. "The tests point to cancer, specifically, acute lymphocytic leukemia. It's on of the most common forms of cancer among kids. A bone marrow aspiration will confirm the preliminary diagnosis." His voice sounded concerned, but final.
A kid! That's what I am, She was a kid, just two months over her thirteenth birthday....
I Want to Live:
"This is not a decision for you to make right now, Dawn," Dr. Sinclair said, breaking the heavy silence. "Go home and think about it. Discuss it. But don't take too long. We'll need to proceed as soon as possible if you decide in the favor of the procedure."
"The odds," Rob, Dawns older brother said. "What are the odds of the transplant of the transplant succeeding?"
"The two doctors exchanged quick glances. "Without it, Dawn has a twenty percent chance of survival. With it, fifty-fifty.
So Much to Live For:
"Can I speak to Dawn please?" The girls voice on the other end of the receiver sounded quivery and familiar.
"This is Dawn. Who's this?"
"I-It's me- Marlee Hodges, from Cancer Camp.
For no reason Dawns heart skipped a beat. "Hi, How are you, is everything all right?"
"No" Marlee's voice wavered.
Dawn clutched the receiver so tight her fingers hurt. "What's wrong?"
"I'm back in the hospital and I'm scared. Please, come see me, Dawn. Please."
No Time to Cry:
Dawn staggered to the bathroom, convinced that a warm shower would maker her feel better. But when she shed her nightgown and looked in to the mirror, her heart wedged in her throat. A fine rash covered her arms and torso. she started so violently that she had to grab hold of the sink for support.
Dawn knew what the rash meant. She'd read too many pamphlets and booklets following her transplant. A rash was often the very first sign of bone marrow rejection.
To Live Again:
Dawn Rochelle looks like any other seventeen-year-old girl, but looks can be deceiving. At the age of 13 Dawn was diagnosed with leukemia. Now almost five years into remission, Dawn is a senior in high school and looking forward to going to college. But her plans are disrupted when she suffers another medical crisis that causes partial paralysis. The doctors are optimistic about her recovery, but Dawn finds herself in to despair. At least during remission she could try to forget about her cancer and pretend she was a normal girl. But the effects of the paralysis are hard to hide from her friends and the boys she cares about. Dawn thought her bad times were over. Will she be able to find the strength and courage to live again?
Well that's all the books. You should really give them a try. They are so good.
