(Or... The Getting To Know You Challenge)
This is my story and I'm stuck to it!
1. LIVING ARRANGEMENT?
It's not very arranged, but it's a two story house with attached garage, walk out basement, and a hot tub.
(2002 Update: OOps. As of June I now I live with my friend Celeste and her husband and three kids, my two children, their two dogs, and their cat. Talk about a busy house! LOL. It's a milk carton ranch type house with a finished basement and a nice back yard and a 2 1/2 unattached garage.)
(2003 Update: Alrighty then! As of Aug. I live back in my 2-story home with my two children.)
(2004 Update: Another change... my husband has joined us in our house again. We're a family once again! Too bad I work so far away... gas prices are soaring and it's $2.35/gallon now!)
(2006 Update: I still live in the same house with my husband. However, this year we plan to fix up a couple things so we can sell it next year and move out of the city. I work about 30 minutes away and would really like to live closer... especially with gas prices skyrocketing like they are! Gas is $2.95/gallon... yikes! Do I hear $3/gallon? Going once, going twice... )
2. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW?
This questionnaire... I think it qualifies as a book, don't you?
(2002 Update: I read Chicken Soup for the Writer's Soul... really cool!)
(2003 Update: The book I really liked this year was RAVING FANS... pretty cool, about customer service.)
(2004 Update: Ok, with everyone buzzing about "The 9/11 Commission Report", Clinton's "MY LIFE", and the books about the Bush Administration "Plan of Attack" and "Against All Enemies"... I couldn't help myself by gobbling up "PIE" a sweet collection of over 300 pie recipes. *Shrug* My grandfather was a chef, I can't help myself! LOL)
(2005 Update: Although "Mary Mary" might be an obvious choice this year, especially since it describes murder, mystery, and the ever elusive MARY.... it just wasn't my cup o' tea. I re-read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" which was amazing the first time around, AND the second time around. And while everyone else was diving into "The Divinci Code" I settled down and curled up with a cup of chocolate raspberry hot chocolate, and "Memoirs of a Geisha".)
(2006 Update: I just had to see the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" and as usual I loved the book more. When isn't that true of book vs. movie? I haven't had time to read a book yet this year, but if you have any suggestions, let me know... k? I know everyone's got a Sodoku puzzle in their book bag, but that hardly counts as "reading" material! And if you're reading "Burnt Toast" I guess you watch Desperate Housewives, too... don't yoU? If you're going to read someone's thoughts and commentaries on life, you'd be much better off reading " Don't Make a Black Woman Take off Her Earrings" LOL. Serious! LOL. Oh, and if you watched the movie "Super Size Me"... you may enjoy the information contained in the book " Chew On This".)
3. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSEPAD?
My mouse.. *grin* and dust... ugh! Honest? LedZeppelin on one of them and a tropical underwater scene on the other. Both of which I can't find at the moment.
(2004 Update: The Led Zeppelin mousepad sits near, security blanket maybe? LOL. But the one I'm using at home for now has a calendar on it. At work I don't have one because it's a laser mouse or something.)
(2006 Update: Yeah, I'm moving on up! I have a "touch pad" on my "wireless" lap top... check THAT out. And back in 2001 when I did this survey originally... who'd a thunk that I'd be wireless and mouse-less? LOL)
4. FAVORITE BOARD GAME?
I'm bored of them all! *Snicker* I like cards more, but have been known to play Scrabble, Monopoly, Life, and Clue.
(2006 Update: Yeah, there's something to be said about the staying power of the oldies but goodies, eh? My favorites haven't changed much... but I HAVE added Tripoly to the list.)
5. FAVORITE MAGAZINE?
Poetry Now and the Awake (And the Watchtower, and E-Week)
(2006 Update: I'm bored with E-week. Canceled that subscription. I have been picking up National Geographic more and more. The New Yorker is also an all time fav of mine, but The Watchtower and The Awake will NEVER be removed from 1st Choice on my list.)
6a. FAVORITE SMELL?
The smell of freshly fallen rain and "Jadore" for women by Christian Dior... but right now I'd settle for anything really as I'm all stuffed up!!
(2004 Update: I still wear Jadore. It's great and still gets me compliments by complete strangers throughout the entire day...what can I say? Gotta stick with a good thing!)
(2006 Update: Yeah, I still wear Jadore, lol. And since I like the smell of fresh rain so much, I went and bought an air purifier (not filter!) from Shaklee. It uses ultraviolet light and negative ions, etc. to CLEAN the air, not just filter it. Now my whole house smells like freshly fallen rain. Yay!)
6b. LEAST FAVORITE SMELL?
I did day care for 12 years, and there's a whole list I could "dump" on here, but I won't get gross. I'd have to say, I met a lady with rotting teeth, and that about did me in!
(2006 Update: Not much changes here, does it? LOL)
7. FAVORITE SOUND?
someone once said, silence is golden. Next to that, music..I LOVE MUSIC!!!! There's also the soft breathing of the one you love next to you in the wee hours of the morning before you even open your eyes, or the excitement in your child's voice when they see you've come home, or the long awaited "I Love You" from someone you've been waiting to hear that from. Am I mushy, or what? LOL
(2006 Update: Did I mention that "gasp" when you take someone's breath away? - GRIN- Yeah, I think I forgot to mention that one. That's a pretty good sound too! And I can't forget Rascal Flatts or Kenny Chesney. Now THEY take my breath away!)
8. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK OF WHEN YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
What's in my face??? (Usually it's my son's elbow... but hey, what can you do?)
(2006 Update: Well, my kids don't sleep with me any more and they don't need me when it storms at night... sigh. So, in the morning I think... did I wake before my alarm? Or did I snooze it to death?)
9. FAVORITE COLOR?
It used to be blue... I'm kind of liking green lately tho.
(2004 Update: Well, it's 2004 and I'm back to blue.)
(2006 Update: Yeah, still blue... especially deep dark royal blue, like dark sapphires on gold... yep!)
10. FAVORITE FRUIT?
Strawberries, no getting around that. Unless you count my mom....she's a nut as well! hahaha. I would say CwrnPuppet from WrittenByMe.com, but I wouldn't want to offend anyone, I'm just in a playful mood today. *smile*
(2004 Update: Who knew that by 2004 WrittenByMe would be defunct. Sigh. Oh well, he was a great author and if anyone ever knows how to get in touch with him again, let me know. I miss his unique style of writing. Favorite fruit? Well, I guess I've added Mango and Pineapple to the list. I've been juicing a lot lately and that has got to make the BEST juice ever!)
(2006 Update: did you know there's a such thing as a "Prickly Pear"? Pretty unusual fruit. Not my favorite, just neat to learn about new things. Pretty colorful to juice with too! I've been liking cherries lately, but strawberries are STILL my favorite!)
11. HOW MANY RINGS TO ANSWER THE TELEPHONE?
Two, because anyone who answers in one, needs a life! And any more than that means you are a work a holic, or addicted to the computer or tv! If by chance it takes me ten tho... that just means that I've gone and lost the dang phone again!
(2004 Update: It's 2004 and I must be a work-a-holic because it's now 3 rings and only then because if I don't pick up by the end of the third ring, it goes to voice mail. Yeah, I wait to the last minute for just about everything. Can you say PROCRASTINATOR?)
(2006 Update: My how times change! It's now 6 because after that it goes to voice mail and I don't usually pick up my phone at all. I'm MUCH too busy to be yacking on the phone and if it's important, they'll leave me a message, and listening to my voice mail is a much briefer way of getting the same information without all the polite "Hi, how are you? How's your kids?" nicey nicey crud. LOL. I don't pick up unless I really have the time to talk, and I really care about the nicey nicey stuff, you know?)
12. FUTURE CHILD'S NAME?
Not an option, Just glad for the ones I have...
(2004 Update:If I ever did have another, I like the name Alicia - "ah-lee-see-ah" or Devona. A boy's name? I have always liked Steve or Sean. Pretty normal.)
(2006 Update: Wow, my oldest is now 15 and will be 16 later this year. He has friends that are having children and I freaked at first. Now I'm thinking... what will he name HIS kids? WEIRD... and yes, I'm feeling OLD!)
13. WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT IN LIFE?
Knowing your purpose, and fulfilling it. For me, it's positively affecting as many people as I can, and pissing off the least amount possible in the process. How's it going so far folks?
(2004 Update: I have put God first in my life where he should have always been. Now, I still try to do the above, but I always share the happy news I've learned in the Bible with others in hopes to share the joy. Sometimes it ticks people off...but so did Jesus. I guess I'm doing a good job as far as that goes then.)
(2006 Update: Though none of the above has changed, I forgot to mention family. I nearly lost my mother awhile back, and nothing reminds you of what's important until you lose it... or almost do.)
14. FAVORITE FOOD?
You know I'm on a diet don't you? And I lost 110 pounds last year?... well, why all the food questions??? Sigh... strawberries. Yeah, that's it! And they're even on the diet. Imagine that. Bananas come close second... and mangos a really close third.
(2004 Update: And chocolate on them all makes them even better. Yeah, I'm not on the diet any longer. LOL)
(2006 Update: Thinking about that diet... not quite there again though. LOL.)
15. CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA?
Chocolate!!!!!!!!! What else is there???
(2006 Update: And best of the best... GODIVA Chocolate Raspberry Truffles!)
16. DO YOU DRIVE FAST?
Not really, I got my share of tickets before the age of twenty, now I like to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
(2006 Update: Well, I guess it wasn't ALL past me... I just got a speeding ticket while on a trip in Wisconsin. Sigh.... And just when you think it's all behind you.)
17. DO YOU SLEEP WITH A STUFFED ANIMAL?
He's been known to be an animal, and he used to eat till he was stuffed quite often...but he went on that diet with me... so, no. He's not stuffed. Tho, I DO know a great taxidermist! *Evil grin*
(2002 Update: Umm...that was back when I was married. Now? I do have a teddy bear on my bed, but I only hug him when I sleep if I'm sad/depressed. Other than that, I do have six pillows, do they count? LOL)
(2004 Update: I'm back to my husband. He's MUCH better than some silly teddy bear or ANY amount of pillows... he holds me back! - And keeps me warm in the winter. What a guy!)
(2006 Update: Hey Guys... pillows and teddy bears don't snore. LOL. Still with the hubby, he's still cool to snuggle with, but so are my pillows! We bought new ones last year, did you know that after 10 years, over 10% of the weight of the pillow is Dust Mite Dung!!!! Go get new pillows!!!!)
18. STORMS: COOL OR SCARY?
Both! Way cool man! The bigger the better! And scary is a GOOD thing! Just like roller coasters!
(2006 Update: Ok, I guess there IS a limit. Katrina was just a bit TOO way over the top. There is a such thing as too much of a good thing!)
19. WHAT TYPE WAS YOUR FIRST CAR?
That I drove, owned, or made out in? I drove an old Chevy wagon (moms) and come to think of it... that's the first car I made out in as well. Wow, how exciting! I'd love to have a nice red mustang convertible tho, or even a nice Valkyrie (sp?) motorcycle with a sissy bar, and black leather saddle bags, and helmets so I could talk with my passenger! Yeahhh!! What I first owned was an '88 Plymouth Sundance, Ice Blue, 4dr, hatchback... :-)
(2004 Update: Since then I've had a "Woody" station wagon, an old yellow Cadillac, a "Woody" van, a Olds LSS (my fav to this day...but it got totaled in January)... now I have a Chevy Venture Van. I'm a Mom, what can I say?)
(2006 Update: Still got the Venture Van... I need a new vehicle! Sometimes I drive the company van... a beige Towne and Country.)
20. IF YOU COULD MEET ONE PERSON, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Don Juan sounded sort of intriguing, then again... so did Mae West! I could have kept Rick Springfield on top of the charts by giving him lots to sing and rock about. *giggle* Then there's the list of cute, wonder if they've got brains to go with that smile guys... Patrick Swayze, Nick Nolte, Sean Connery, Chris Christopherson, and more.
There are some really talented people and some sweet people I'd like to meet before I die, tho not so famous (yet)... Sue Braiden (From WrittenByMe.com a writing site as well as mp3.com a music site), Jimmy N (thanks Dad), Matt R (your fiancé is a lucky girl!), Abigail N (can't wait to see what you look like when you are a big girl), Kim A (I've got a treat for you), Edgar H (keep safe and warm, and hug that boy for me), Art W (tho far away, you're always on my mind. Hope you're doing better), Gary E (Your photos will be your legacy! I'm privileged to have been the first to see some of them!), Erik J (Your voice can heal the world, keep at it!), Nick S (Thank you for cheering up people when they're down), Noel C (Forevermore you'll be remembered), Rey L (The best son a mother could want), Rich N (May your muscles never fail you... and get well soon Tigger), Ron C (Never thought I'd be making music with a "real" musician), Andi M (Don't pull any punches with me... lol. I'd say be safe, but that isn't quite what you want, is it?), Andy K (Remember, writers shape the world in which we live... or at least how others see it), Andy A (Stories are a wonderful thing, weave them continually), Clive S (There's a first time for everything), Billy J (You are a great writer, and someday... the world WILL take notice!), Bryan (I don't care how you choose to spell your name, Bryan=Friendship), Chris P (You are shy and quiet, but your heart is loudly heard by those around you), David T (I'd be so fortunate to have you as my mentor!), James D (congrats on finding your one and only) ...
let's not forget the people that I've met and have made an impact on me and who I am, for that I'm Soooo grateful! The great Erik Selis from Breez on mp3.com (You are a music GOD and a friend like I've never had before), Mark N (Thanks a lot for helping me with my self control), Warren M (I'll miss you when you move to CA, but CA will love you), Charles B (long live long hair), Chris B (When my kids ask what I was doing when the WTC towers fell, I will have a story to tell!), Craig H (The greatest karaoke singer in the mid-west, and a great friend at that), Ed L (You play boy you, don't go breaking too many hearts, you'll need one someday to fall in love with...*giggle*), Roger B (What a wonderful father you are), Ron Y (I used to say I never met a sales man I didn't hate... that's blown clear out the window now! LOL), Shannon B (I've heard you can do big things in small places, tell me... is that true?), Kirk P (Secrets are fun to keep, eh?), Fautso A (Memories never die I was told... so far, so good.), Aaron M (More is always better, right?), Calvin W (You were quite gluttonous when they handed out common sense and maturity, don't you think? It's hardly fair to the rest of us... but at least we have an excuse for lacking in that area at times now.), Celeste R (Can I borrow that black belt in karate sometime? No? How about one of those dangChineseineese swords hanging on your wall?), David G (I've never had so much fun sitting on a couch and watching t.v. ... and here all this time I thought you needed to... well, err.. you know... to have fun. Proved me wrong!), and my children D.J. and Gary, and finally but NOT LEAST... my mother Betty O....
21.WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ALCOHOLIC DRINK?
It used to be Grasshoppers, then when I wanted to get "lit" faster, it became Long Island Ice Tea. When I thought I was "grown up" I took a liking to whiskey sours. I went thru stages of cravings for ice cream drinks like Brandy Alexanders and such, then the sweet stuff like Margarita and crushed ice drinks with fruit - preferably strawberries. For a bit I was experimenting with exotic names like "blow jobs", "Buttery Nipples", and "Screaming Orgasms"... but that was a short stint. Now I'm content with a Captain Morgan and Coke. *smile* Or a Ice Cold Bud Light will do just as well. (And no, I'm NOT an alcoholic. But being a Sigma Nu little sister, drinking was just part of the pre-requisites... you know? After all, I DID win second place in the beer Olympics. Not that I'd brag to my kids about that now tho... *giggle*)
(2006 Update: Recently had something called a "Dirty Girl Scout" that tastes just like a Girl Scout Mint Chocolate Cookie! Yummy! And also something called a "Colorado Bulldog", also yummy. Still like the Captain and Coke. Got a little Captain in ya?)
22. What is your zodiac sign?
Don't do that... *smile* Tho I've been told I'm a cock by the Chinese place mat. Nice to know that.
23. Do you eat the stems of broccoli?
It's ALL good!
(2006 Update: And cheese makes it better!!!)
24. What would be your favorite job in the world?
I have that title already... MOM! With Daughter, sister, neighbor, lover and friend all running a close second. What would I like to get paid to do? Write and public speaking. I think those are ways in which I can most effectively reach the greatest amount of people and try to positively affect their life!
(2006 Update: I'd have to say that being at GRIP for 5 years has really had a favorable impact on me and I love my job. My God-Given ones are still my favorite... you know,Daughteraghter, and all that jazz.)
25. What is your favorite hair color?
I must say that I love the salt and pepper look. It's so distinguished. I look at that and KNOW they've got stories to tell, and I wish I knew what they were. As for the rest, I don't want to sound prejudiced... but... I prefer brunette/brown even tho on my head you'll find all of the above (except gray). I have brown, blonde, red, black, and some not yet identified. And it is all natural. *smile*
(2004 Update: Only grey I have now is one silly eyebrow hair... that gets regularly plucked! LOL)
(2006 Update: K, I have a FEW grey eye brows... that all get religiously plucked! And I did highlight my hair last year, that looked pretty cool. It's all grown out now though.)
26. Have you ever been in love?
If you don't know, you haven't read my work. *smile* Let's put it this way... if I could sing, I'd sing the blues and KNOW what I was singing about.
(2006 Update: Is Godiva spelled with a capital G?)
27. Is your glass half full or half empty?
My glass is overflowing. Even when it's really half full (cuz it's NEVER half empty) it's getting fuller every second! I have two wonderful healthy sons, a friend who loves me, my mother's respect and approval, my sibling's friendship, and a faith that fixes anything.
(2006 Update: Why isn't "All the way full" an option? My life is SO NOT EMPTY at all right now! LOL)
28. What are your favorite movies?
Gosh, this could be longer than the who do I want to meet question. I love musicals like My Fair Lady, Fiddler On The Roof, Grease, Cats, The King And I, Guys and Dolls, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and more! I like the classics such as Gone With The Wind, Operation Petticoat, Citizen Cane, and more. Then there are unforgettable comedies such as Cool Runnings, Pretty Woman, and Aladdin (yes, it's for adults as well, I found that out when I was cracking up at parts my kids had not a clue at). There are "WOAH~!" movies like Sixth Sense (was that what it was called, with Bruce Willis?) and that chess movie about Looking For (something) Fisher and let's not forget the infamous Titanic. (I'm so bad with names). There are movies that others never even heard of like Lorenzo's Oil with Nick Nolte and Susan Surandon. (Great Movie!!!! And a true story as well) See? This could go on forever. I'm not into senseless violence and cussing, or crude and lude humor too often...tho at times it's what you need. That's MHO of course.
(2006 Update: I've seen and enjoyed "Memoirs of a Geisha", the musical "Chicago", "Day After Tomorrow", "X Men", "Moulin Rouge", "Flying Tiger, Crouching Dragon", among MANY others... and I think the one that sticks out in my mind them most would be "Chicago")
29. Do you use the right keys when using the keyboard?
Yes, and the left ones... my fingers are on the keys my teacher told me put them on in typing class. For anyone who's heard me typing or chatted with me, I can type almost faster than I can talk... and THAT is scary and a feat in itself, let me tell you! *giggle*
(2006 Update: I think I forgot to mention that I type as fast as I talk... and for anyone that knows me... that's pretty dog gone fast! I also wear off the letters from the keys of any comptuer I regularly use. Who cares anyway? I'm not a hunt and pecker... I know right where they are!)
30. What is under your bed?
I'm not sure, and I don't dare look! Ok, actually, nice neat tidy baskets of shoes and sandals all separated and grouped by type and color. I just didn't want anyone to think I was anal or a neat freak. Far from it!
(2006 Update: Now it's empty luggage since I travel extensively for work, and a bucket of unmatched socks awaiting the next cycle of laundry, each hoping their mate will eventually be found and not given up to the ferocious appetite of my dryer.)
31. What is your favorite number?
Any number but one, it means you are alone. If I had to pick, it would be 2. I have two boys and that's just perfect for me!
32. What is your favorite sport to watch?
Usually it's ice skating (And YES it IS a sport, have you ever tried to do those tricks???). I must admit I love racing, and basketball, and football, and the fights in hockey are addicting. Would you consider sitting back completely sober on a Friday night at a local bar watching all the drunks make fools of themselves a sport? It is really entertaining either way.
(2004 Update: Wow, with the Olympics this year, I found that I like a LOT of sports I didn't realize before. I like watching the rings and the bars a lot most of all... I think. And my husband and I are starting to save NOW so we can go to the Olympics in China in four years. I think that will be a blast!)
(2006 Update: We've been going to the races at the Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI. Nothing like the smell of rubber and gas with the thunder of cars zipping past so fast that it vibrates throughout your entire body! Love it!)
33. Who is your current favorite band or recording artist.?
Oh Gosh, this is worse than the "Who I'd like to meet" or "Favorite Movie" question as music is my life. I love all music, all types... except rude crass pain in the a$$ cuss word filled rap. There is good rap tho, so don't take offense if you listen to rap, I'm not dogging you - take it easy! I do end up listening to more easy going stuff tho. Check out Breez, MJ12, and Sue Braiden on MP3.com. I like Air Supply, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Creed, Shaggy, Allure, Aqua, Barry White, Chris Isaak, Elton John, George Michael, Ready For The World, Alabama, Lisa Lisa, Matthew Good Band, Shania Twain, Simon & Garfunkel, Steve Miller Band, Tim McGraw, Tracy Ullman, Will Smith, Wilson Phillips, Heart, Bonnie Tyler, Weird Al, EverClear, Everlast, Joan Jet, Pat Benetar, Bon Jovi, Oasis, Silver Chair, Steve Perry, Styx, Sheena Easton, U2, Collin Raye, Elvis, Kenny Loggins, Leslie Gore, S Club 7, Savage Garden, Seal, Cher, Seal, Sinead O'Connor, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Yes, Poe, Hootie And the Blowfish, Moody Blues, Milk House, Asia, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Great White, Warrant, Poison, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, ... oh never mind. I just love music!
(2006 Update: K, how about Finger 11, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Usher, Avrille Lavine, and Gorillaz? Yes, I'm eclectic. LOL.)
34. Are you religious?
Yes. I believe in the Bible, and what IT says, not what some guy on a pulpit says. Again, I don't mean to step on anyone's toes here. I love to discuss the Bible, but only what the BIBLE has to say. I'm not into doctrines of men and traditions, if you know what I mean. And I also take the Bible literally, so that gets on some people's nerves as well.
(2004 Update: I've done a great deal of research and believe that history has a lot to teach us. Between the Bible and history, you have any guideline you need for pretty near any decision you want to make and know that it will be a good or bad choice. The outcomes don't differ from the same decisions made eons before.)
(2006 Update: I've found great peace of mind studying the Bible with others and sharing the hope found therein.)
Anything else you'd like to know... just ask me! Hugs all around, and have a great day. And if you really read this entire thing! Kudos to you!
