The Smell Of New Paper

The smell of new paper, a love I proclaim,
For using computers is never the same,
I write what I want on a letter-size piece,
Then fold it in half with a very sharp crease.
A poem or a story, it's all up to me,
I write what I hear and I write what I see,
I write what I feel and say what I can,
I finish the story from where it began.
I open a ream of some new paper stock,
You'll think this is silly, so please do not mock,
The smell of the paper is Heaven to me,
With poems in the making, to fill me with glee.
Each sheet in the pack is a story untold,
With wit and some wisdom, it's there to unfold,
As pen glides on paper and feelings run free,
The words on the paper are me being me.

I love to write on paper with a pencil, so I can use the eraser! Though I don't open reams unless the copier is empty, I use legal pads! I use to live by a paper mill and that smell was not as sweet. You say that I can write about anything...so my friend can you and well! Anthony
I did enjoy this. It brought an old picture to mind of a bearded scribe with a quill pen writing by the light of a guttering candle.
I must say that I also do not like writing on paper for the same reason as Roger, with my hand writing I should have been a doctor.
Nicely done
I honestly do not like to write on paper. My handwriting is awful and I use too much whiteout. But like James said, the rhyming scheme is not forced. The flow is so smooth and the subject matter, well, the only thing that I can think of is that I'm sure that you actually opened up a ream of paper and the smell actually inspired you. This poem is well crafted and a joy to read.
I like this a lot. Th poem itself is perfect in its rhyme and meter, not forced and contrived. You make it look easily. I also like the simple, pristine joy it evokes-- the joy of the raw marials od writing a simple poem. I even love the metaphor suggested by the "unfolding," both literally, of paper, as well as of a poem or work in progress. Beautiful. Joyous.
