October Frolic II
by Jean George
copyright 10-14-2005

Age Rating: 7 to 127

With start of dusk the doorbell rang;
Three goblins waited there.
Behind them stood a ghastly witch
In black with long green hair.
I looked them up and down and such
And met them stare for stare.

I handed out the loot they sought
Before I heard a greeting.
The frightful crew then turned and ran,
Their friends they were a’meeting
Continuing with evening’s play
And the trick or treating.

October's moon shone down upon
The costumed groups galore.
As all night long they roamed the streets
Approaching every door;
With childish glee they hid behind
The frightful masks they wore.

It often seems that on this night
Absurdity holds sway;
Bo-Peep and Dracula stop by
With faerie queen La Fey.
I treat them with a hidden grin
Then send them on their way.

These characters from myth and lore
Roam ‘neath the nighttime sky.
Exulting in the goodies got
As “trick or treat” they cry.
Tis the way of Halloween Eve
‘Til curfew time is nigh.

My original "October Frolic" poem (also posted)is the other side of the coin...Amazing what a difference time and culture can make....Happy Halloween!

I just love the imagery, just as I did in the original. You have a gift of picking good words and arranging them in an order which keeps all your oems fresh and stimulating.

Another great work, by another great artist.

Rich

I just couldn't read the first one without reading the second one. All my comments from the first one apply here as well. This is another great poem you have written. I just love your great imagination and how you apply it so well throughout your work. It's just so interesting to read. I love it and keep them coming. Ernie.

Your words seem to flow, always so effortlessly, regardless of subject. This is a nice complement to the first one.

This is magnificent! It is a mixture of E. A. Poe and Vincent Price. You have captured the spirit of Halloween in it's entirety. As usual, your imagery is extremely vivid! Great Halloween poem!

This is the whimsical side of Halloween. I always enjoy meeting the kids at the door. Great fun!

Yes this is a great follow to the first. I liked the first and I like this also. Anthony

What more can I say, this is a worthy follow on.
You definitely have the gift.
It brings to mind Poe and others who wrote in the macabre.
Ghosts and ghouls, and things that go bump in the night.
Brian
