On The Bayou

  On The Bayou

I'm sittin' on the Bayou,
With my watermelon wine,
I'm tryin' to catch a catfish,
And I'm feelin' mighty fine.

Some folks may say I'm lazy,
And I gotta get a job,
They say I'm good for nothin',
And I'm livin' like a slob.

But I ain't hurtin' no one,
And there's no one hurtin' me,
I like the way I'm livin',
It's my way of bein' free.

I think they're kinda jealous,
'Cause they work from nine ta five,
Then come home mighty tired,
And they're feelin' half alive.

I got no great ambishins,
It's jes how I wanna be,
And though you think I'm lazy,
I am me, jes bein' me.

This could have come out of New Orleans. You get better all the time. You get into character very well. I liked this it was a fun read! Anthony

I love this poem! Many people do not have the opportunity to see a Bayou, let alone fish in one. My brother took me fishing when I was seven years old, and I don't remember how it's done. One day, I will entangle myself in a fishing line. I love the Souther accent in this piece! You've done a marvelous job transmitting the lingo. There is a smooth, lazy, carefree flow to this poem. I would even dare to say that there is a smell to it, honestly! It is so well crafted and the imagery so vivid that one can smell the wind in the Bayou and the catfish as well. Great job, David. I really enjoyed this catch!

LOL!! This is a great poem. I really enjoyed it. This would be an awesome country song. I could here the tune in my head as I sang it. Keep up the great work. I really enjoyed this piece.
