"Where are you going?
There's nowhere to flee,
What makes you feel
That you can break free?"
"Will it be wise
To leave me this way?
Go to your lover
And I'll make you pay!"
She sat on the floor,
And read from his note,
She thought he was kidding;
It wasn't a joke.
His mind was tormented
By what she had done,
He said he would find her,
"There's nowhere to run!"
She climbed on a Greyhound
And headed for Maine,
She knew she had hurt him,
Which drove him insane.
She said she would marry,
And be a good wife,
She promised him children,
And joy all his life.
But prior to marriage
She met a young man,
Who offered her riches;
That's how it began.
He said he would give her
The world on a string,
She fell for this lover,
And they had a fling.
And now she is fleeing,
For fear of her life,
Because she would not
Be a dutiful wife.
"Where are you going?
There's nowhere to flee,
What makes you feel
That you can break free?"
"You said you were leaving,
I told you to stay,
Now you and your lover
Will both have to pay!"
