A nose snuffled at Ruella who woke and mumbled, “Laraal, what is it?” and opened her eyes to the sight of a tiny Akrina face staring widely at her.
“Ruella, it’s a ship!” squeaked Laraal excitedly, flaring out his little fins.

It had been five years since the death of Neraa and the two eggs had hatched, revealing Laraal and Relii, two young Akrina. Ruella sat up to see white sails on the horizon. “Look!” she cried, jumping up and waking the others. Relii jumped up and joined Laraal in a happy dance. The others got up and Sargon cried, “We get to go home!”
“But you’ll have to stay,” Zarach said to Laraal and Relii.
“We know,” Relii said, swishing her tail around, “But we are happy for you! Quick, you must get ready!”

After a great deal of jumping and yelling, Ruella, Sargon, Zarach and Thila had summoned the ship, a large merchant’s ship that had been headed for the Dragon Stepping Stones. Soon Ruella, Sargon, Zarach and Thila were on and sailing away. They looked behind them, at the Laraal and Relii prancing on shore, but then looked ahead into the setting sun and their future.

Yeah. Short. But it's a happy ending in a bittersweet way. ^^
