*I would like to say that this story is based on a Sailor Moon Manga I read. The manga only summarized an event in, like, five sentences, so I expanded on this very important event!
Hotaru looked up. The sky was a bright blue and the sun shone a mellow yellow. She leaned back against the bench on which she was reclining and frowned down at her homework. Something was going to happen today, something good. She could feel it in her bones, even as they creaked and groaned with weakness. She pushed all the books and papers away, for she did not need something as tedious as homework to ruin such a feeling. Something was going to happen soon, she just knew it. She sat quietly and waited.
Rini and all the other Sailor Scouts were lounging around at the back of a crowd. They were in the park, waiting for the famous actor Ed Yousaku to start shooting his new movie "Gunman at Red Fuji". Soon, they were all mesmerized by the action-packed chaos the cameras were filming. That is, everybody except for Rini! Being too short to see over everybody's head, and her friends being too transfixed to help her out, she had to resort to jumping up and down. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew out and sent Rini's hat flying! Rini cried out, "Oh no, my hat that Serena's mom bought for me! Please somebody catch that hat!" And leaving the crowd, she ran after the ribbon-bound hat soaring just above her reach.
Hotaru had been gazing at the flowers that crowded the bank of the nearby river when something caught her eye. A little girl with pink hair was chasing after a ribbon-bound hat caught in the wind, shouting for somebody to catch it before it fell in the river. Hotaru leapt to her feet and pursued the hat as well, and with a great swipe, seized the hat and tumbled to the edge of the river. "Oh!" She gasped as an agonizing pain seared in her chest.
Rini screeched to halt next to the black-dressed girl who had caught her hat. "Thank you!" She exclaimed. But then she noticed that the girl was panting hard and her face was twisted in pain. "Are you okay? Should I get help?" Rini asked anxiously. "No. I’m okay. I just have these… fits sometimes.” The girl sat there until her breathing eased up. She smiled and handed Rini her hat. “Thanks! I’m Rini! Do you want to play with me?” The girl laughed. “ I’m Hotaru. And I’d love to play with you!” The two girls smiled.
Hotaru stood up and walked with Rini toward the bench where her homework lay scattered. She organized it all into a pile and set it on the ground. She and Rini sprawled onto the ground as well, and started talking of how hats could be held down onto one’s head without the band underneath the chin, which was quite annoying. Laughing, they folded blank papers into paper boats and floated them down the river, holding a contest for the most unique boat, which Hotaru won with a seven-sail trimaran, which is a sailboat with three hulls. They had just started a paper airplane contest when something crushed aside the bushes behind them and looked down, grinning evilly.
Rini immediately recognized it as a daimon, but did not want to transform in front of her new friend. But as the daimon bared it’s teeth at the two of them, and pulled out a gun, she knew she didn’t have a choice. She reached for her transformation wand, but before she could, the daimon spun around to face… the Sailor Scouts!
“Chasing innocent people with a gun? You really are an outlaw! Wyatt Earp may, but we will never forgive you! In the name of the moon, we’ll punish you!”* Sailor Moon leaped forward with her Moon Spiral Heart Attack, but surprisingly, the daimon wasn’t hurt! It had used her gun to shoot and break down the “hearts” from Sailor Moon’s attack. The Scouts were shocked. Mercury confirmed that this daimon was a new and stronger type of daimon.
“How right you are!” Mimette, a member of the Witches 5, popped up. Sneering, she shouted at the daimon, “Western, take that man’s heart!” She pointed at Ed Yousaku and Western flew toward him. It sucked Ed’s heart out and swallowed it! “Just like the cormorant. That must be the daimon’s new technique!” breathed Sailor Mercury. Just then, Sailor Uranus and Neptune appeared! “World Shaking!” “Deep Submerge!” But the daimon simply swallowed the attacks whole.
Hotaru and Rini had hidden in the bushes that Western had not yet trampled. They had been watching the whole scene in horrified silence, but Mimette had spotted them anyway. “Western, capture that girl for me!” Western bolted toward Hotaru, and hurled her swinging lasso over her head. “Hotaru!” Rini pushed Hotaru out of the lasso’s way, and got caught herself! “Rini!” shouted Sailor Moon.
“What a tragedy, Sailor Scouts!” Mimette sneered. “Now get out of my way, or my daimon will crush your pathetic little friend.” Suddenly, a bolt of violet lightning struck the daimon’s lasso and shattered it. “Dead…SCREAM!” Sailor Pluto had arrived!
Sailor Moon seized the opportunity. She lifted the Sacred Cup and double transformed into Super Sailor Moon! “Rainbow Moon Heart Ache!” With one final scream, the daimon was demolished.
The Sailor Scouts all disappeared to wherever they had come from, and Rini and Hotaru were left alone. Hotaru thanked Rini for her trouble, and Rini smiled in return. Then Hotaru noticed that Rini had a bloody gash on her knee. She reached out and concentrating with her eyes closed, emanated a purple glow from her fingers. Rini’s wound healed instantly.
Rini was amazed. “Wow! How’d you do that!” Hotaru shifted in embarrassment. “It’s just something I can do. None of my classmates talk to me because I can do such scary things.” “It’s not scary, it’s wonderful!” Rini said firmly. “If I was you, I’d be proud, not ashamed of such things. I think it’s really cool you can do that!”
Hotaru smiled. Here was the thing that she had gotten a feeling about. A really good feeling. She had found her first friend. And it felt wonderful.
