Hope
by Leigh G.
copyright 11-10-2005

Age Rating: 10 to 127

"Hope"
Such a childish emotion...
The truth of hope is
Not excepting fate
Wanting some to happen differently
Lying to yourself
Dreaming
Wishing
Hope
We all feel it
Such a futile race we are...
We fear letting go...
Yet all hope can do is hurt you
It may work for you
It may not shatter your heart
Every time you cling to it
But all it does to me...
Is attack unmercifully
Shatter my heart
Eat away at my soul
Futile...
So futile...
All is futile...
Prolonging to pain
All hope can be is...
A reincarnation of Hell

Leigh, WOW! It really IS dark. But hope isn't that bad. Makes you feel good. And, it isn't trying to aviod fate, it's trying to be optomistic, and think about what good can come out of something. Yes, I know, hope can go overboard. Like if you enter a raffle 10,000 other people go in, to try to win a boat and you buy yourself a dock for it, waiting for it to come in the mail. Now, that's what I call a little much, but still hope isn't that bad.

Hope is one of those things that can make you feel better. And I think there is a slight difference between hope and pretending things that can't happen can. I agree, hope can sometimes turn it's back on you, but hope is one thing that is unpredictabe, yet when it is right, you feel happy. Hope is one of those things that are hard to live with, but most certainly gives you rewards. Hope is one of those kind of weird things that you can't tell is a friend or foe. So I try to think of it as an aquaintance, that will never be less or more.

p.s. Great job on the poem, though!! I'm really starting to get into you're dark poetry.

Sheesh, Leigh! You told me this is your darkest poem, but I had no clue it was THIS dark! I think hope is just about the only thing in me that I can rely on now. Hope is just about the only thing that humankind can generate without doubting it. Not doubting something, being able to know that there's no wrong from it is a really good feeling. All the same, your poem does have a meaning, which has a real impact on hope itself. Ack, I'm rambling on and on. Great Poem! Could use some editing though...

Hope is a wonderful thing, but misguided hope can hurt you. Maybe you are looking for the wrong things to be hopeful for. God has something in mind and faith tells me there is still HOPE for you. Look up, you can't see his light by moping around looking down and sad!
