Serena Loves Her Kitty
by Deborah Thomas (Age: 48)
copyright 11-19-2005

  Serena Loves Her Kitty

So you want to know who Serena should love?
I have the answer to that.
Some have replied Darien,
But I say she should love her cat!

Kitties always love you back
And listen to the purr
As you run your fingers through
Their silky velvet fur.

Serena loves her kitty
No matter how angry she's been.
When Kitty scratches at the door
She lets her Kitty in.

Loving Luna is easy
And therefore more appealing
Than struggling with the right words
To tell Darien of her feelings.

Perhaps one day her Darien
Will share his own true love,
And make the union possible
To be blessed from up above.

For still the higher powers
May need the cause made plain,
That Serena's love for Darien
And his for her, is not in vain.

For true love lasts forever,
Nothing can tear them apart.
How can a person live and breath
When another has their heart?

So then the two together
Shall make the person whole.
Serena and her true love
Will live in love 'til old.

Really cute! I love cats, and I agree; most of the time a cat is easier to love than a person. Of course, when that cat can talk... Anyway, nice poem, nice rhyme scheme, keep writing!

The piece has a nice flow to it, though you get off the task of her loving Luna. Still this piece tells of how Usagi/Serena really is.

Nice job, keep up the good work.

It seems you found your pace in this piece after the third stanza. I love the contrasting emotional humor you evoke in the reader by preferring her cat's companionship over that of another human. Of course, there is no comparison, but in the absence of loving companionship sometimes the love of a pet can be strangely comforting.

I look forward to the completion of this poem.

I love doggies myself, but the real meaning of your poem is in the last few stanzas, and I couldn't agree more. Lovely sentiments, lovely poem.

P.S. You have a talented and sweet daughter.

ahhhhh i love luna... i have a stuffed luna and i use to sleep with it intil i got real kitties off my own.. and your right...aside from para-para's snobby behavior...she has this thing bout attacking me if even look at her...LC and her really love me...or at least when i feedf them. lol..

anyways i loved how your poem talked bout the complex relationship between these two, how they depend on eachother and the picture is perfect.

I have more to add, thanks to Alma for requesting it be made longer, but I cannot edit in contest.
So, the rest will have to wait until after December 08.

Very well done. The picture and the poem go great together and this would be a great edition to a children's book as I really think they would love to read this one as well as look at the picture. Great work. I enjoyed very much.

I agree with everyone else. The picture fits and the poem is so cute! I actually had a black cat that I named Luna once. He and I always scrapped cuz he'd get into his kitty treats all the time when I wasn't looking. But he loved me. :)
