Quietly crawling on these branches all day,
minding my own business with nothing to say.
My back arches up as I take my next step,
conserving much more energy, uses less pep.
Suck the sweet sap and moving right along,
enjoying my life for this is where I belong.
Must keep myself concealed, can't be heard.
Remain well hidden from that diving bird.
Time passes by as I look for the one spot,
shaded area most preferred but not to hot.
Found that perfect place to spin my silk,
so shiny and smooth turning white as milk.
Laying here dormant wrapped in this cocoon.
Mother nature will develop its change soon.
Things are happening, don't know what they are.
My body's changing, feels wonderfully bizarre.
Time has come to reveal this great beauty,
for nature awaits me and my new born duty.
Stretch my wings, colorful they seem to be.
Must leave this place so everyone can see.

The first part of the caterpillar's life is hidden, but the transformation will bring the Butterfly into the light! Life is also this way for some, but others never leave the cocoon and their beauty isn't seen. Thanks for this perspective. There is much hidden from us and we only need to open our eyes to see! The messages here are also there if you really look! Anthony
Wow, that was a great poem! You were able to keep the rhyme scheme, and describe the exotic life of a caterpillar! Heh, where I used to live, caterpillars didn't exist, only millipedes. I really like how you wove in the neccesary words. I have a hard time with that. But then again, I think up most of my poems on the bus going home from school!
Yes, most people would agree that you've described the life of a caterpillar. But I see beyond the caterpillar, this is the life of most of us who seek to go about our business, wanting nothing less than to be left alone and to our own devices. This is life and its struggles, life at its most complex. It is complacency and conformity. This is a great write!
