I think that this is an unpretentious attempt at unraveling and old mystery that has beckoned mankind since the days of yore. I truly appreciate the cunning of this poem. We all know that there is a fine line between love and hate, yet you titled your poem Hate and Love! Very cleverly done. At first glance, this poem seems redundant and simplistic. But if you read between the lines (which is what I like to do), you will notice that it is a wisely composed piece of poetry. When you say, "Hate, the new love," to some people, this would sound like a command, such as, hate the world or hate your parents. To me, this sentence is saying, hate is the new love. In other words, hate has taken over love and we see an example of this all over the world. Instead of loving, people are now hating. This poem creates a clear picture in my mind of all the wrongs of this generation. "I say love when I mean hate," this shows one how confused and chaotic our generation has gotten. This phrase is just like saying that something is good by saying that it's bad. But to me the best part of all is when you say, "And it's not that I can't appreciate the words true meaning," by the away, it should be, "word's true meaning." This phrase tells us exactly what the problem is with our society, that we go with the flow! Finally, "Hate is just a little ways from Love." brings the poem full-circle. Hate being just a little ways from love means that there is hope, that things will get better! There is still hope that things will work out in the end. Great write, Sarah! This is how I see it!
