In Slipperyslope Of Fallenback

  In Slipperyslope Of Fallenback

In the far off land of Fallenback,
Is a tiny town called Slipperyslope,
A town that seems so heavenly,
Where people smile and never mope.

I came across this little town,
Some years ago when I was young,
A time I nursed a broken heart,
With bitter taste upon my tongue.

The town was neat; the air was clean,
And so I thought I'd hang around,
And try to feel a bit of cheer,
Instead of wearing this old frown.

It first appeared that all was fine,
I fit right in, or so it seemed,
And then I saw the awful truth,
Was not the way that I had dreamed.

The citizens were going nowhere,
Just one step forward, two steps back,
And all emotions were on hold,
For there were two things that they lacked.

They had no vision and no dreams,
Though smiles were glued upon each face,
And everything just stayed the same,
For changes they would not embrace.

I knew that I could never stay,
Where life was stagnant; so unreal,
And though my heart was torn in two,
At least I knew that I could feel.

I ran away from Slipperyslope,
And far away from Fallenback,
I knew my heartache could be cured,
And I could get my life on-track.

And now I know I will endure,
The things that life puts in my way,
I learned from those in Slipperyslope,
My dreams and visions will not stray.

When we feel things I believe that is life. To not care or feel means you must be dead. The people of Slipperyelope seem to be on a flat place in life, maybe they should go over to the edge and try sliding down the hill! This poem will mean many things to many people, to me it means we need to live life to its fullest, before we get trapped by what we fear! Anthony

I can't help but remember a church that I attended some years ago when I read this. All was much better at first than before I had started going there, but one day I realized that they were not going any further... I needed more.

I am glad that your story has a happy ending... a lesson learned about forgetting what is behind and moving forward to finish the race. Do I also see people who are afraid to get out of their comfort zone? No dreams, no visions, no future?
I enjoyed the lighthearted theme, and realize the importance of the message. One of my favorites of yours so far. I, too, shall make beleive a story of a place with a silly but meaningful name for you! (maybe)

It's much better to feel pain, than to feel nothing at all! That's the awful truth. And though there are things I miss in my past, I would not trade them for anything because I am looking toward the future! :-)
