Stumbling Along
by Marilyn Wilkerson
I love to walk along the beach,
Looking at the waves lapping at my feet,
Seagulls floating gracefully in the sky.
I love to have the sand
Squishing through my toes.
My thoughts wander
There are so many things I want
To do with my life
The ideas bursting from my brain
Could fill up the beach, the sky, the sea.
Then, as I stumble over an empty beer can,
My dreams all fade away.
I realize my thoughts are as empty
As that can cluttering up the beach,
Unless I do something - NOW!
I stoop down and pick up the empty can.
That's a start, isn't it?

This is a good poem! It's a short one, but I enjoyed it. I like the topic, and how it boils down to be about recycling would make a friend of mine, Mehrina B., very proud. :) I can agree though, if we're not careful and try to help this world, and only destroy it, we'll slowly be leading ourselves into oblivion! Maybe not in our lifetimes, but billions of people are going to pay for out laziness and carelessness. I recycle and all of the like, but I mainly go crazy about global warming and the like. If you can walk some where, it's a lot better than driving...no carbon monoxide that's decaying the ozone layer!
Best I change topic now, or else I'll yammer on a lifetime about global warming...anyway, good work! I liked this poem and the topic. Keep writing!
Good poem. Something we could all think about. Last year I had my Brownie troop clean up the block around the building we met in. We had a few bags full when done - only a one block square radius. Sad that so many would throw out trash, as if the world is one big garbage dump. Looked really good after though!
