  The Hellfighter

They say that he was born in Hell
and wasn't afraid of the fire.
Red was born to put them out,
and that was his greatest desire.

He'd walk up to an eighty foot flame,
and never even blink an eye.
He did the things that no others,
would even attempt to try.

He was not, the first to fight,
Myron Kinley had taught him much.
Red developed methods they use today,
and all of the tools and such.

He was known by all, as the best,
they called him when there was a need.
His reputation had served him well.
They knew he would surely succeed.

Boots and Coots got their roots,
they worked side by side with Red.
Put out the fire, in every quagmire
somehow they attached the wellhead.

Thousands were burning somewhere in Kuwait
they worried that it would take years.
A natural disaster is what Saddam was after.
So Red came to ease all their fears.

The Hellfighters strive to stay alive,
they work in all kinds of condition.
What should take years, was done with cheers.
In nine months was the fires submission.

Red was the best, just ask all the rest.
They will tell you all the stories they can.
World leaders and Presidents along with the residents,
will surely miss this great man.

Paul N. "Red" Adair 1915-2004

(He said that he made a deal with the Devil.
If he went to hell, he would get air conditioning
so he wouldn't put out all the fires down there!)
