Falling Apart
by Haley R. (Age: 14)
copyright 04-04-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

When I grew up,
Things seemed normal and pain-free.
But since we changed,
the walls started falling down on me.

The wars started happening,
We got left behind.
Then people started dying,
And there was more and more crime.

Are things just fading,
or is it just me?
I miss the old days,
When life was plain pain-free.
When a kid could walk on the sidewalk,
And not be scared.
When people weren't maniacs,
And everybody cared.
But now it's all gone,
As you can see.
People aren't listening;
especially to me.

School got harder,
My parents weren't home very long.
Gas prices started going up.
And there was no meaning in the words of a song.

Fights started happening,
And then we fell apart.
Democracy is leaving us,
And nobody made art.

Are things just fading,
or is it just me?
I miss the old days,
When life was plain pain-free.
When a kid could walk on the sidewalk,
And not be scared.
When people weren't maniacs,
And everybody cared.
But now it's all gone,
As you can see.
People aren't listening;
Especially to me.

The towers are falling down.
People are losing rights.
We can hardly feel safe at night,
With people starting fights.

We caught Saddam,
But we are still standing there.
Why won't we just leave?
I don't think we're being fair.

Are things just fading,
or is it just me?
I miss the old days,
When life was plain pain-free.
When a kid could walk on the sidewalk,
And not be scared.
When people weren't maniacs,
And everybody cared.
But now it's all gone,
As you can see.
People aren't listening;
Especially to me.

What has happened,
With our country today?
It seems like were doing better.
But not every thing's okay.

We may be done with segregation,
Separation, and despair.
But we've started things impossible to finish.
We've caused pain everywhere.

Are things just fading,
or is it just me?
I miss the old days,
When life was plain pain-free.
When a kid could walk on the sidewalk,
And not be scared.
When people weren't maniacs,
And everybody cared.
But now it's all gone,
As you can see.
People aren't listening;
Especially to me.

How could this have happened?
We were working for peace and then,
Things started falling down,
They were all so innocent, and yet every thing's falling on them.
