The eyes of the wolf glow with a luminous light; dangerous power unleashes throughout the blinding night.
The ears of the wolf catch the faintest sound; the cry of an Indian girl, her hands tightly bound.
The tail of the wolf, every bristle on end; with loyalty, struggled to protect his dear friend.
The claws of the wolf, fashioned into the ground a den; a sanctuary from the world of men.
The coat of the wolf, warm and thick; when the days were short, kept Little Feather from growing sick.
The fangs of the wolf, painted with blood; gave his life to defend the one he loved.
The eyes of the wolf in my mind will remain, not
a ghostly stare, but an intense golden glow filled with life; to represent the dusks lonely, painful song, not the first sunshine rays at dawn.

I think the wolf embodies so many of the values men lack, and attributes men wish they had more often... loyalty, strength, power, family bonds, innocence, playfulness, tenderness,... sigh... so much! My son loves them for many of the same reason I do too. Thank you for writing about them. I'll have to let my son know about this one.
Elisabeth, this is by far one of the most tantalizing and extraordinary depictions of a creature so intertwined and identifiable with nature. I was stunned as I read through your sentences which are so vividly described and so elegantly crafted. You have a natural gift for imagery and fluidity as well. This is absolutely beautiful. You transported me to the peaceful land of the solemn Native Americans and made me see one of the animals they revered the most, for their courage, loyalty and dedication. Congratulations!
Have you ever read the book Julie of the Wolves and the two sequils to it? If not, you should. Wolves are very magnificent animals indeed. I am glad that you chose to write about them. Your words do them justice.
