I heard their screams as they pierced the afternoon
I heard their screams as I got into bed
Like loosed arrows they pierced my heart which bled
For mom and dad whose angers lay all strewn
Like sounds you'd hear within a bar room saloon
I knew they didn't mean the things they said,
Yet they struck my younger ears with awesome dread
Still, I hear their screams in the afternoon!
When I grew up I forced away my fears
Of screams which drove me on throughout the years
Now eased by grown-up parents warmer love
I think the fears inside them too had flown
This pen can stop, there is no more to write of
Perhaps within our hearts we all have grown

I know the feeling, I was adopted at seven years old and I would come home everyday vollyball practice take a bath and lock my door and act like I was getting dressed, just so I wouldn't get yelled at because I was really sleeping, I got caught one, jumped out of bed with my towel still on, my step dad(adopted dad) beat the living hell out of me ( not really ) but in my childlike eyes, it was pretty bad, but always the yelling came first and usually the pain came later, they learned not to beat me when they were mad, so I knew if they yelled at me during the day, I was getting it tonight. And way, thanks again, great write, good job, thanks
