The dinner
Was fit for Caesar......
It always was
My gaze sought her out
Across the dining room table
She appeared as a bright red ruby......
She always did
She clattered the dirty dishes into the washer
I placed them into the drawer......
I always did
After feeling the fullness of dinner
The children rang in on us
To assure themselves
That we were hale and hearty......
They always did
A King never had
A more beautiful family
A more wonderful wife
Had never been found
Peace and harmony
Were constant boarders here
Angels warding off trouble and strife
We were relatively affluent
American dreams
Who wanted for nothing,
Social Security deposited
Our checks in the mail today......
They always did
The sun room habitually
Called us to meet after dinner
Quietness followed us in tow
Intimacy relaxed here for 57 years
We glanced at each other in know
Our embracing gazes sang songs
Of echoes remaining in our memories
After dinner we didn't speak......
We never did

This I would think sums up a contented married life. Couples either grow together or apart, life is never static.
I really cannot pass judgement on the subject. Having tried it twice, neither time very memorable, this was probably more my fault than theirs.
I did come to the conclusion that, 'happily married' was a contradiction in terms.
