Eid
by Mehrina B. (Age: 13)

Age Rating: 1 to 127

Eid is here!
The second one, that is
You see, we only have two holidays
Both are called Eid
The first signifies the beginning of Ramadan
The second signifies the end of Ramadan
Ramadan is a period of fasting
And it changes every year
One month before the last
The first Eid is nothing but joy
Friends and family laugh all day
The adults have to pay the kids!
The kids get to gorge themselves silly
On chocolates and cakes and more delicacies
And the food is spectacular!
The boys turn on the video games
Halo and Def Jam and every other game existent
The sophisticated girls (not me) sit around doing nothing
The sensible girls (that’s me) run around annoying everybody
The adults sit around talking about news
And of course, we take a day off school!
The second Eid is more somber and serious
It’s the religious holiday
When we sacrifice goats
And give the meat to the orphans
And we pray for the good things in life
Then the feasting begins!
Same as before, the boys turn on the video games
The adults sit around talking about news
And the girls go their own ways
The kids don’t get paid this time
And the adults have a measure of control
But we still get a day off school!
And we enjoy ourselves
Plus, I run around annoying people
That’s me!

Hi! I like this poem! My best friend also celebrates Eid. She's a lot like you, from what I can. I understand Eid a lot more. I didn't get it before. ^-^ Great poem! I like it a lot! Erbarley!

Learn something new every day!

Nicely paced, and informative, too. Never tried goat, but I've eaten alligator once. Not every day you get to taste dinosaur.

Hey Mehrina, I want to say I'm sorry for not commenting earlier before continueing. First, I liked this a lot. I never really knew what Eid, or Ramadon were about, but now I know! It must be a lot of fun! I like how in the perentheses (spelling?) you did: (not me) (that's me).

They were funny. Also, I liked how at the end you put:
Plus, I run around annoying people
That’s me!

I liked it. It made it seem funny, and happy. I like how you decided to write a happy poem, instead of dark. I like the variety. I think that proves how good of a writer you are! Keep up the GREAT work!

You learn things everyday and even when your old. You have taught me something today. I don't know if I'm any smarter, but I know a little more. Good job, Anthony

lol! Run around annoying people, sounds like me...This is a really cool poem! I didn't know what Eid was before this... This is a really good description and gives back round information and what you do now, too. I really like this poem! It's a neat change to same-old-same-old. And I've been reading some bad poems by a few authors...You're not one of them but all names will be with held. Getting side tracked...This is a very original and creative poem! I'm glad you're not over aging poems anymore too. Your recent age ratings are much better. I like the last two lines the best! :D
