Lament

Oh, thunderous clouds
I do implore your mist
For I have sown my seeds
and now await my harvest
Bring me your warmest of breeze
Share your breath with mine
I do believe you refresh the soul
I do see you renew the heart
Good deed after good deed
I have counted the favors
Why not lament?
is it sinful to tally?
Douse your blessings upon my head
for I have fed the hungry
I have quenched the thirsty
and for what, humility?
Keep your promise onto me!
I have traveled the lonesome mile
Lest it does not ever count
the goodness that I’ve seen
I walk in haste again
to my corner reach
In passing, I’ll not hesitate
to feed the mouth that weeps
Lest you show me I have sinned
Therefore, bestow upon my house
the promise that you keep!

The good that you do for others, myself included
will always be the true source of your happiness and your salvation. If I could canonize you, I would. I understand completely why Gina loved you.
Very dramatic, Roger. A prayer.. expectations of God's blessings. I feel like you have a need.. it's time to cash in on your 'deposit'. But you will continue to do what is right even if your prayer is not granted, yet!
I almost wanted to check my Bible to be sure that this isn't already written.. perhaps by Solomon, or King David himself.
But in the end, the joke will be on me, because you have something totally different in mind and I can't see it yet! ha ha.
I had to break the seriousness of this mood.. but I will read it again to regain it... and I will see you in the fields, or in your chamber by candlelight.. lamenting...
This reads like a heartfelt prayer, and it reads well. As far as the content, however, my own opinion is that the narrator is praying a selfish prayer, as he expect some reward for doing good works, as if he now deserves the reward as some sort of right.
As you know, God has promised to reward us, but on the other hand, expects us to do the good works to honour Him, not just to receive rewards.
There, that's my sermon for today. Keep writing these poems that cause us to reflect and reply with our opinions. It shows that you are pushing the right buttons, and getting us thinking.
