"Mommy, are you and daddy really going to divorce?" Kanai asked in a sweet voice.
"Yes, but dont let it bother you, you'll be happy with me, I promise," Kanai's mother said wrapping her arm around Kanai with tears dripping down her eyes.
Kanai kept thinking about that time while she was riding in the car into her new home with her mom. She kept her tears bottled up trying not to show her sadness to her mother.
Kanai was 12 years old with black hair and brown streaks and red eyes. Her eyes were starting to water but she didnt let out a sound.
"How long until we get to out new home?" Kanai asked, "where are we going to live anyway?"
"Be patient Kanai, trust me, out new home will be better." her mother replied, "hmm, now lets see, we turn left on exit 35."
"Why doesnt mom ever tell me anything, she always just tells me to wait, saying I'll find out someday but I havent found out anything at all." Kanai thought, "the scene is so beautiful, it looks so calm and peaceful, I'd like to live here but judging by the way mom is going, I highly doubt that."
"I'm going to miss all of my friends, everyone of them but I'm happy to start my new life. I'm really really excited and hope to make so much new friends."
The light started to darken and Kanai looked up, "whats going on?" she thought. The sky got darker and darker but her mom continued driving. "Mom, why is it so dark?" and Kanai thought that her mom would say what she usually did like, "you dont need to know," or, "somethings are meant for us never to know," but she didnt, instead her mother kept silent, not a single word.
The car stopped and Kanai's mother stepped out of the car. "We're out of gas, an there doesnt seem to be a gas station nearby." Kanai got out of the car as a dim light came shining through the dark. A stange man in a yellow raincoat came out holding a small lantern. He looked no older than 40 and why was he wearing a raincoat if there wasnt any rain?
"Do you need a lift?" he asked.
Kanai looked around, "how can he drive us if he doesnt have a car?" she thought and looked around once more but still no car or any transportation.
"Yes, that would be nice," Kanai's mother said grabbing their luggage out of the car.
"Doesnt mom realize that he has no car?" Kanai thought.
"Very well, where would you like to go?" the man asked.
Mom gave him the sheet of paper with directions on it and the man analyzed it for a moment and then gave it back.
"Okay, all I needed was the adress anyway. So, are you just moving in there?"
"Yes, me and my husband just divorced."
"What a coincidence," the man chuckled, "I live there too."
"Really, that nice, maybe you could show us around when we get there," mom said cheerfully.
"Mom, enough with the talking, can we just go, I dont want to wait here listening to you guys talking, its boring, really boring," Kanai complained.
"Kanai, quit being so rude, he offered us a ride so you better be polite," her mom scolded, "I'm terribly sorry for my daughters rudeness."
"Mom! Haven't you noticed? This weird person doesnt even have a car! He has nothing!" Kanai shouted.
"Oh, we dont use cars from where I'm from and where you're going, if you dont know this, you're going to have a hard time adapting."
"What do you mean," Kanai glared.
"I'll just show you," the man grinned. A light flashed and the man called out some weird words and then went, "spirit of the air, I call apon your power, take us home!"
"What, what's going on?"
Kanai's mom didnt seem like she really cared as if she knew about this. Wind started blowing and then the light disapeared along with the car and Kanai came up in a weird city. It looked normal but not the people. People were grilling barbecues by shooting fire out of their hands. Others were raking leaves with weird powers.
"What is this place?" Kanai thought.
"We're here, so where do you live? I'll escort you there." the man asked.
"1673 Red Way Street," Kanai's mother replied.
"Thats not too far, and its not too far away from my house either." the man said, "Well, okay, follow me."
They arrived at the home and the house looked really normal. The kitchen was big, same with the dining room. My room was meant to be upstairs and its really nice. One bathroom was beside it and her mom's master bedroom was downstairs not too far from the dining room and anotehr bathroom was there too. There was the laundry room, the garage, everything. He also told me the school I was going to go to is called, "Nine Dragons Middle School." It sounded like a really cool name but the town was just so weird.
"Thank you so much, may I ask for your name?" Kanai's mom asked.
"Yamato, Yamato Shiguchi," the man replied, "what about you?"
"Nice to meet you Yamato, my name is Atsuko Rerika," Kanai's mom replied, "and this is my daughter Kanai Rerika, shes sort of stubborn with new people but once you get to know her."
"Nice to meet you too, I'f you need my help, I'd be happy to. I live 2 blocks away at 1681." Yamato said.
"Thanks, I'll need it," Atsuko said.
Atsuko and Kanai umpacked their luggage and arranged it. It took about 2 hours and they didnt talk for those 2 hours. Finaly, her mother spoke, "what do you want for dinner?" Kanai didnt hear, her mind was on other things.
"Why does my mom keep everything hidden, whats that going to help? Its just troubling me, and whats with this town? Everyone, its like they have magic!" Kanai thought, "mother said I would be happier, but ever since I left father, I've just been more troubled. I'm so lost, somebody, please help me."
