Could Hillary Rodham Clinton become America’s first female president? Only time will tell, but Hillary’s accomplishments during her career thus far have been mind-boggling. It is amazing to realize how one woman has done so much to help our nation. The supportive environment Hillary grew up in as a child gave her the strength she needed to succeed in life. As First Lady of Arkansas, Hillary positively influenced her state, and as First Lady of the United States, Hillary positively influenced the entire nation, and even the world. Hillary has had a profoundly tremendous impact on the nation.
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton was born to Hugh Ellsworth Rodham and Dorothy Emma Howell Rodham in Park Ridge, Illinois. She was raised in a conservative Methodist family who supported and inspired her to pursue the career of her choice. Rodham was involved in many clubs in high school such as student council, debate, National Honor Society, and many sports as well. Her interest in politics began at the early age of sixteen during the presidential election of 1964. Rodham went on to Wellesley College after high school. Her leadership skills that she built in high school allowed Rodham to thrive in college. After Wellesley, Rodham continued her education at Yale Law School where she was provided with the tools to build her career.
After Rodham’s marriage to Bill Clinton, she later became the First Lady of Arkansas. Rodham Clinton’s accomplishments as First Lady of Arkansas were endless. She improved testing standards of new teachers. This helped assure that the children of America would be taught by the best. Rodham Clinton introduced “Arkansas’ Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth.” This program gave parents the opportunity to teach their preschoolers basic knowledge that would help them grow in their future education. Because of Rodham Clinton’s numerous achievements during the time in which she served as First Lady of Arkansas, she was awarded with the titles of Arkansas Woman of the Year in 1983 and Arkansas Mother of the Year in 1984.
When her husband, Bill became President of the United States, Hillary became America’s new First Lady. As expected, Hillary carried out her duties as First Lady as she did when she served as First Lady of Arkansas, perfectly. She supported and fought for women’s rights not only in the US, but also all over the world. Being a woman herself, she wanted things to change in regions like the Middle East. She acknowledged how poorly the women were treated, and Rodham Clinton wanted to see change. In 1997, Rodham Clinton started the Children’s Health Insurance Program. This program provided state support for families who were too poor to insure their children. Hillary helped increase funding for research on illnesses such as prostate cancer and children’s asthma. Due to the huge positive influence Hillary made on the nation, she is thought of as the “most openly empowered presidential wife in American history” other than Eleanor Roosevelt.
The unambiguously positive impact Hillary Rodham Clinton has made on the world is outstanding. The support and encouragement of Rodham Clinton’s family in her early years cleared a path for her success in life. Her tremendous achievements as Arkansas’ First Lady led to her bigger and better accomplishments as First Lady of the United States. Hillary has been recognized all over the globe for how much she has done, and she still isn’t done helping the world yet! Who knows what’s next for Hillary; perhaps the Presidential Election of 2008!
