The Phantom

  The Phantom

Inspired by the story of "Jack The Ripper"

The Phantom rises up to meet with me,
I cannot see his face or hear him speak,
He owns my soul, no longer am I free,
He rules my nights and days, which are so bleak.
There was a time when I could feel the sun,
It shone upon my every waking day,
Now I'm a wanted man out on the run,
A time of quiet peace is what I pray.
But that is not a thing that I'm allowed,
I made my choice and this is how I'm paid,
The things I did, at one time made me proud,
Each time I killed a 'hooker' with a blade.
But now the Phantom lives within my heart,
And we will never, ever be apart.

i had the commplete opposite point of view... i thought this was amost like someone who was being consumed by jtr and was repeating his crimes..
maybe i misread it but it was well done...and would make a neat story. good job.

When I read this piece, I tried to envision Jack the Ripper, cornered and repented. As I remember it, JTR was a maniacal serial killer who horribly defaced his victims. He was never caught and never showed remorse for his actions. With that being said, I feel that this piece sort of romanticizes JTR. There is a soft side here that we never saw or read about this killer. I wanted to see the dark side of this mysterious monster, the side that we all know was his trademark. The imagery is a bit mellow and pensive and the fluidity is smooth, though the subject matter is "Jack the Ripper," still sends trepidation to the heart of many who read his story.
