Roses and Candy

  Roses and Candy

Walking along I happened to see,
a beautiful sight, thought this one's for me.
I followed her home to get her name.
Hoping that she, might feel the same.

For days I watched her from across the street.
Wishing I had the courage, to be able to meet.
Then on Valentine's Day, I thought it'd be dandy.
I went out and bought her, a dozen Roses and Candy!

I bought her a card that said I love you.
I wished she'd be able to love me, too!
I got home to find, something on my door.
A Valentine card, but I didn't know what for.

I opened the card and was delighted to see.
That she was smitten and in love with me.
So I ran to her house to confess all my love.
why'd it take so long, push come to shove.

Now that so many years have gone by.
I remember way back and have to sigh.
Eight grandkids around life is so dandy.
All because of, a dozen Roses and Candy!

Oh, how often it happens that the one that a person loves, is one that has been in their lives for so many years. My son was married in May, 2005, to a girl he has known since Grade Two, yet they were both 700 miles from their home-town when they found each other.
Ain't love grand!

A romantic theme that rhymes well. The last verse wraps it up nicely. This poem almost reads like a ballad.
Needs a little more editing though-Line 2 and the last line of the second last para need to start with a capital letter to lend uniformity. This would add a finishing touch to a poem which shoots straight from the heart!

Great Anthony. Valentines Day is really your time of year. You seem to shine! I really liked the last stanza a lot. I wish I had thought of it first. ~only joking~

Good read,

Rich

Really! All those grandkids, at your young age! A lot of love here, but I miss the raunchy stuff from the last poem! Just kidding. Nice write.

Jim
