Penguins in my Sock Drawer
by Tiffany Forster (Age: 21)
copyright 02-21-2006

Age Rating: 4 to 127

There are penguins in my sock drawer
They are eating all my socks
I've tried to keep them out
But nothing works, not even locks.

Oh, there are penguins in my sock drawer
And they will not go away.
These little sock eating penguins
I believe, are here to stay.

No one believes there are penguins in my sock drawer
No, they tell me I am mad
Well, aside from my old Uncle
Who owned some as a lad.

The penguins in my sock drawer
Are becoming quite a pain
They've made a town of socks now
Complete with Toeflake Lane...

"I let the penguins win!", I say
"You can have my sock drawer!"
And they all rejoiced at first
But now they sulk, calling me a bore

There are no penguins in my sock drawer
Oh no, there is not one left there
I have all my socks back now
But now my drawer looks so bare.

((Umm, to prove to Richard that I do have a sense of un-darkness somewhere...^.^ Even though this is four years old... The point still stands!))

This is a little *cough* childish. So you like to write dark? A lot of people on here do, if you haven't already noticed. It was good, but there is a point. You must really want penguins to talk. That wasn't what the point was. *cough* It seems like you're saying everything is all good till its gone. Some people will just take advantage of everything and everybody just to get what they want. in this case, you waited patiently for them to get what they wanted and they left. Sounds like an old boyfriend you don't want around, but you don't know how to tell him off. then he realizes that he was bad and wishes he still had you, but he wasted his chance. Just another point of view... It looks nice to a 12 year old, but many people a few years older will get a grasp at it and whip around in all sorts of direction, finally pointing to the right point. Anyway, it was really good. Talk to you later.

I guess the underwear gnomes were booked that night...

It's a uniquely frivolous concept yet with a deeper perspective attached. Some of the verse was a bit strained, but given the fun nature it's definitely an enjoyable read. It would also make a great children's book ala Dr. Seuss.

I thought it was funny until I read it a second time and really understood the point you were trying to make. So many people think bad of things at first and then finally realize when something is gone that we actually liked it or loved it and didn't take it for what it was when it was around. I think that is why we cry when a pet dies, or a favorite something is lost. This one made me wonder what you missed about the penguins when they left was it that they kept things interesting and now you see that they were right about you being boring. I think this poem is kinda sad when you truly analyze it. Great poem Tiffany.

hehe...I always thought it was the dryer eating them, but I think I'll put a trap in my sock drawer now. I've got to put an end to it somehow! This is such a fun piece!

Now, just what colour are those little pills you are taking? lol
This is really cute. You have a strange imagination, but somehow it works for you.
