Sand
by Leigh G. (Age: 14)
copyright 02-14-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Here I am
Devoid of emotion
Dying inside
No hope in my heart
Joy is a distant memory
Nobody cares about me
Why should they?
Nobody gives a damn
About one little grain of sand
Moving through the ocean
Swept about by the tides
I tried to be seen
I tried to fight the tide
But in the end...
I'm just one little grain sand
There's a million just like me
Doing the same thing
Just tryin' to live
Just tryin' to get by
Just tryin' to smile...
Living in this heartless computerized world
Nobody gives a damn; about one little grain of sand
Why should they?
Why reach out a helping hand with nothing to gain?
Why except the help that will wither away?
Life's too hard on me
This little grain of sand...
No body gives a damn
About one little hurting grain of sand
Things move so fast in this world today
One thing that means everything to a person one day...
Is nothing the next
Tryin' to live,
Tryin' to smile,
Tryin' to laugh...
Goals we all hold, but what makes us smile changes in the blink of the eye
Just like the sand on the ocean floor...
Swept about so quickly, nothing will be recognized the day
Tides pulling us apart
Tossing us aside and than pulling as back
How easily we are changed...
Like sand on the ocean floor
Those who I called my friends
Couldn't give a damn
Sayonara friends
This liability shall sleep
This last selfish wish
Live in pain or die in peace...
Farewell
I'll relieve my parents of this burden
I'll let those I called my friends move on
Maybe you'll feel me...
I doubt it though...
One little grain of sand
Devoid of emotion...
Pain for a heart...
Finally dying in peace...
Nobody gives a damn
Nobody gives a damn
Nobody gives a damn about one little grain of sand...

This is a little gut-wrenching and full of emotion.
"There's a million just like me
Doing the same thing" This line I don't agree with. It is written well, but the truth is, nobody is just like you. You are an individual, totally different from everyone around you. You will one day find your place and others will appreciate you for who you are.

Wow! It was really good. Dark too, I must say. I liked it a lot. You said that this would make a good song, too, right? Well I agree, it would make a good song. The chourus would be:

"Nobody gives a damn
About one little grain of sand"

Really good. I think the cursing showed your anger and frustration. It was a nice (well, if you'd call curse words nice) little touch to the dark side. But, I must tell you now. PEOPLE DO CARE!

Me, Jordan, Mehrina, EVERYONE does. And don't worry about the people who don't. It's THEIR problem, not yours. Either way, the analogies and comprisons with life to a grain of sand were GREAT!

Keep Up The Good Work!!

*sniff* The cold heartless world we live in. Most people don't even care to actually help out people in need. IN NEED! And those who just want company and support are left by themselves. You're right, it is nothing but a selfish world. I like this poem in the sense that it attacks these type of people and makes them open their eyes to actually see around them. Good job!
