The darkness closes in on me
This candle is my only light
I can see the shadows flicker
Shift, change and take flight
I can hear the mocking laughter
Of the shadow that surround
The wind howls warning to
All who are around
My candle sits in darkness
A beacon in the night
My dying hope of happiness
The dying hope of light
It is all that is here
In my solitude of dark
A place that thrives on fear
A journey we must embark
My candle is slowly burning
Oh, my candle will burn away
And I’ll be left in darkness
As the shadows shape and sway
But for now it burns so brightly
That my demons will not near
But soon my candle will dim in light
And the monsters will become clear
As the darkness wraps around me
I stare into my light
Hoping and I’m praying
I don’t fall victim to the night.

I once experienced total darkness in an underground cave, darkness that you could almost feel. That's what came to my mind when I read this poem.
We light a match in that cave and it was like a beacon in the dark, so was you candle in this write.
Good expression, well thought out.
