Live Action Sailor Moon Cast (just a thought)
by Mike Macdonald (Age: 26)
copyright 03-04-2006

Age Rating: 13 to 127

People have talked about the subject of a live action Sailor Moon cast a lot, and it always irritates me when people suggest actors and actresses just because they’re their favorites or kind of resemble characters that're drawn in a deliberately generic fashion. As long as they’re gonna be lame enough to even bring the subject up, they may as well not be half-assed about their suggestions. I figured if one was to undertake this sort of asinine task, one should consider the actor’s appearance, past roles, and, of course, age. So here’s my live action cast on paper, with my reasons for why I chose them (mostly to avoid outrage from the Big Baby Board of "dubbing is totally evil and any slight change is unforgivable" anime fans) and complete with pictures that best prove they can look the part (just cut n' paste and hope they're still current). I don't own any of these pics, though, I just googled 'em. Feel free to throw out your own suggestions as well, 'cause this is just for fun!

Oh, yeah. You'll notice all my choices are older than their characters originally were. This is because the 14-year-old hero bit is for Disney movies.

*Edit: My better judgment is telling me that I'll avoid unnecessary migraines if I go ahead and spell out for everyone that I'm talking about an American version, even though the names I'm using ought to make that obvious enough, if not the fact that I cast a woman for Zoycite. There's no point in my making up a Japanese live action cast if one already exists, is there?

Serena – Brittney Murphy
http://bradcheckett.tripod.com/britney_murphy7.jpg

This girl can act. I’ve seen her as both an intolerably spoiled brat with no grip on reality, and I’ve seen her as a horribly scarred mental patient. Serena goes through a huge personality transformation, so she’s a perfect choice.

*******************
Amy - Lacey Chabert
http://www.funmunch.com/celebrities/actresses/lacey_chabert/enlarge/lacey_chabert_10.jpg

Onscreen she can be awkward, ditzy, playful, or beautiful, she’s pleasant to look at even when she’s not dolled up, and she’s got one of the sweetest smiles ever. She's great for the part. She even looks best with short hair.

***********************
Rei - Nanako Matsushima
http://img.xaonline.com/1024x768/10305.jpg

She's actually not too bad an actress, having been cast as the heroine in the original version of The Ring. And she's a cutie. I suppose if she spoke English to the other girls, she could have her voice dubbed so she'd sound fluent.

*******************
Lita – Jessica Biel
http://www.comicbookhotties.com/images/abigail-whistler/large/jessica-biel-picture-19.jpg

I always wondered who’d be my pick for Lita, considering to fill her shoes one would have to be a decent actress and in tip-top shape. I realized this little angel from 7th Heaven fits the bill once I saw her in Blade: Trinity. Besides, looking at the pic I’ve provided, you can’t deny she’s a spitting image of her persona, anyway.

*********************
Mina - Rachel McAdams
http://www.101lifestyle.com/images/celebs/rachel_mcAdams/rachel-mcadams_001.jpg

I always figured Mina to be the kind of girl who takes your breath away as soon as you look at her. Rachel McAdams does this, too. I’m convinced she’s a good enough actress to pull off a sweet n' quirky role like Venus. Anyway, she kinda looks like a girl that’d spend a lot of time in Europe. She’s got class.

**********************************
Queen Beryl - Helena Bonham Carter
http://www.scifi-universe.com/upload/personnalites/grand/helena_bonham_carter.jpg

She’s proven herself a great actress in dark, disturbed roles, her accent would add that royal flair to the part, and if you’re a Sailor Moon fan and look at this picture and don’t immediately think of Queen Beryl you need your head checked.

*******************
Jedite – Guy Pierce
http://www.bbc.co.uk/collective/dnaimages/memento.jpg

Although I think Guy Pierce is probably a bit too established an actor these days for a borderline bit part like Jedite, this man had Machiavellian style in The Count of Monte Cristo. He could play a villain like Jedite flawlessly, and he’d make him a memorable character, which Jedite hasn’t really accomplished on his own.

*************************
Neflite - Michael Wincott
http://www.michaelwincott.org/Galleries/Pleaving5.JPG

Here’s the reason I started this ridiculously anal list of actors in the first place. If you ever have to even think about who would be the perfect actor to play Neflite, then you clearly haven’t seen any movies with this guy and you should be ashamed of yourself. Michael Wincott looks like him, sounds like him, and has unparalleled class as a bad guy or semi-bad guy.

************************
Zoycite - Milla Jovovich
http://www.stars-palace.com/superstar/200409/milla-jovovich_resident-evil-005.jpg

Milla’s more than once proved she’s good at playing over-the-top psycho chicks, and Zoycite is the over-the-toppingest psychoest chick there is. She's got the smirk down, that's for sure.

**********************
Malachite – Jeff Fahey
http://personalpages.bellsouth.net/c/i/citizensane/marshal4.jpg

Yet another strange but, I think, well-founded choice. Jeff Fahey has a soft voice, and can play characters calm and reposed or on the verge of snapping and killing everybody. He also towers over the other three choices for lieutenants, and he’s the oldest pick of the four, which would make their age ranges more accurate. But the kicker is that he actually has Malachite’s unusual eyes. Jeff Fahey’s gaze grabs you in a strangle hold and doesn’t let go ‘til the scene changes.

Luna - Elizabeth Hurley
Artemis - Hugh Grant
http://ak1.aka.eonline.com/7/1480/1218/0001/www.eonline.com/Features/Awards/Golden2000/Gallery/Images/hurley.lg.jpg

Obviously, these two don’t look the part of the scouts’ guardians. I just think it’d be cute to team them up as the voices of a pair of talking cats. They’re both really fun to watch, and impossible not to like. I even found a picture with the both of them.

I have choices for other characters as well, but I won't go into those unless I'm actually prodded to do so. Meantime, I'm going to bed.

Okay I like the choice for the cast for the Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts and there villians and the Cats awesome as usual but you got the people playing as well I mean who's Darien going to play as well if this is going to be a real live show well just a thought. But I like the idea. Good idea.

I think all of the stars are a perfect match for all of the sailor scouts. There was a few people that I never heard of before. The person you chose for Amy, she looks like she was on the movie, "The Craft" where these friends become witches and one of them goes bad and drags in two of the remaining three with her. Anyway, this was a good idea.

This moon note is pretty good i'm quite impressed since most of these celebrities i don't know but you should send pictures of them and add the ones you are missing

Actually a very good idea, this moon note was very interesting. For more suggestions, you should add more characters like Rini, Darien, etc. I wasn't quite sure who all of the actors/ actresses you were describing, probably because I don't care much for celebrities, mainly because most of them are arrogant and spoiled, but all in all this was a great moon note.

ahh but robert you need to remeber that in America they always cast actors that are way older then their charcters. I guess your suggestions are pretty cool mike i especailly agree with Britiany murphey and rachel mcadams for Moon and Venus.. Though i think they should also have Chbi-usa (NOT rini) in this as well, i think Dakota fanning would be adorabable playing her what do you think. Oh then i can could be cast as Black Lady, oh a dream come true...i was in a school play once..

03-04-2006 Robert Betts

While a few seem ok, I think many are too old for the parts. The sailors are 14 in this this series and many of those you suggested look far older than that.

I also happen think that casting Sawai Miyuu as Serena was perfect. Serena's major character traits are clumsy and ditsy and Sawai does that perfectly. She was originally not the actress of choice but Naoko pushed for her to be Serena. Naoko should know, Serena was created as an image of Naoko who is also known to be ditsy.
