While I was Away
by Regina Pate (Age: 29)
copyright 03-09-2006

Age Rating: 13 to 127

While I was away
I discovered a few things
I learned how to talk to birds
And I know why the sparrow sings

While I was away
I felt something I never had before
I felt the breath of a lion's roar
And that's as close to terrified
as I ever what to get
But hey, at least I came and tried
The King of the Jungle I met

While I was away
I saw some familiar places
The homes were all familiar
but I didn't recognize any of the faces

While I was away
I tasted my temptation
And I will not lie,
It was better than I hoped
but then when it was gone
I was left in darkness
Grasping for the dawn

While I was away
I wonder if you missed me
Did you ever think about me
How many times a day

While I was away
you were by my side
and you never left me
you were my only guide

We are closer now
than we ever could have been
before

There is no such thing as broken vows
not anymore
Promises are made to last

No more empty champaign bottles
celebrating nonsense

Now I say, we can finally toast
to happiness
As we walked this road together

We are happy
I believe that

In our hearts,
not in our bed,
joined in memory
not in matrimony

Love has come and shot us both
with it's lustful arrow
And so now we fell in love again
and I'll sing like a sparrow

I've come a long way I'd say
I couldn't of done it alone
I found out who I am,
And how much I have grown
While I was away

Distance does make the heart grow fonder...if you aren't away too, long! This is a good reflection poem. While I was away there have been many poems written and I am going to be taking a while to catch up! This was a great poem and I really enjoyed reading it. I miss you and hope this finds you well, Anthony
