A Little Cough
by David Pekrul
copyright 03-11-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

It started as a little cough,
She thought it was the flu,
A little rest and time in bed,
And she would see it through.

It started as a little cough,
But then it got so bad,
The doctors tried the best they could,
But knew not what she had.

A little cough is all it was,
Now, she's about to die,
I look upon her ashen face,
And then I start to cry.

Was only just a little cough,
But now she drifts away,
And as I hold her hand in mine,
I close my eyes and pray.

It started as a little cough,
But now my Love is gone,
And though her night has fallen fast,
I'll see her in the Dawn.

This is so sad and leaves you wondering what had killed her. Do you even know?

Sounds like a real tragedy. Hope it's just fiction. Christopher Reeve's wife just died of lung cancer. She was only 44 and never smoked. We never know what life has in store for us. We should be grateful for every day of life. Your poem is stinging and gripping and heart- wrenching as well.
