Often times my soul takes flight
As a ray of cosmic light
More rapid than the speed of sound
On wings of thought to leap and bound
Through the long cold winterly night
As a wayward bird to alight
On your snowy window sill
To watch in silences as you write
And to wonder at your feathered quill
And I hear the swish of your pen
Like a whisper of some wind
The ticking of a meter
The clicking of a heater
And in due time
The humming of your mind
The beating of your heart.
When at last I depart
You hear, the swish of wings against the night
the sound of swift wings taking flight
Echoes of childish laughter trailing behind
In vapors of white light.
