Dante... Paint Me A Portrait Of The Lie

You said you'd trade in all your gold,
For a brief moment spent with "her"
but Walter, what about your precious soul?
Won't you eternally thirst for some water?

Is that even a conscious choice we make?
Or a momentary decision to blindly go
beyond the borders of mercy's safekeeping
to the chance of forgiveness we think we know?

A nibble at bliss, a tender kiss,
a female, a foe, a friend, or more than a friend.
a special feeling like this...
But what's the price we pay in the end?

If I don't look, will it still hurt?
If I'm sorry, does that make it ok?
If I kiss it, will it make it better?
If I'm drenched, is hell any wetter?
Does it matter, as long as we're together?

Dante, paint me a portrait,
of happy sinners burning in hell,
let your brush stroke the lie
that you beautifully tell so well

Ah, but man is so imperfect
and guess what, God is not!
He didn't promise us a hell
but time in the ground to rot

"From dust," he carefully quoted
"To dust," is what he said to them
And when Adam finally died & Eve expired too...
It was the cold and bitter ground that joined those two again

Where did the tale get so twisted
That cold was hot, and truth was not
Was life beyond death ever really meant to be
Or just some fable that a serpent's prey forgot

How did the lie get started, I wonder
Oh wait, I remember, it was that snake that did it
That snake in the grass who was calculated and crass
who told Eve she wouldn't die if she did, but she did...

And her children refused to believe it
and wanted to hang on to whatever they could
so Satan repeated his lie, and twisted it a bit
and told the tale to those he wanted to listen, or would

He said GOD LIED and that EVE LIVES
but in a spirit half way between heaven and hell
He whispered untruths to waiting wanting ears
Those untruths, half-truths, non-truths...
that Satan has been telling us so well

And we, the children, keep believing the lie
And think our ancestors are in heaven, oh swell!
Or hell, but do you really ever imagine Grandma
crying out, suffering, and burning in hell?

"Of course not," the preacher explains
from the mighty pulpit before the crowd
"Death is payment for our sins," he says
and he says it again, but really loud

So then maybe you'll believe and maybe
you won't ask any questions and maybe
you'll think that somehow the lie makes sense
And maybe you won't read the REST of the Bible
and maybe you won't wonder where the ressurection went

For if Grandma's in heaven, why would we resurrect her?
If she's in hell, why wasn't she forgiven?
And what's purgatory for? To fill the coffers some more?
And earth... just a battle ground for prayin' and sinnin?

When Lazrus died, Jesus said he was sleeping
and then he bowed his head and yes, Jesus wept
Then he led the others to the cave to wake Lazarus
That cave, that grave, where lazaraus just slept

In death his slumber was peaceful, don't you agree?
Or would he have gone to heaven? He WAS a righteous man!
Wouldn't YOU be angry if you'd made it to heaven
and were brought back? Imagine it if you can!

The Bible says that all those in the memorial tombs
will some day wake from their deathful sleep
The memorial tombs will release the masses
that in their hold they currently keep

And that there will be a new heavens AND a new earth
And that Paradise will be made all over again
That all mankind will finally get along and that
even the ferocious animals will be our friend

God's purpose is never denied, especially by a snake
And god made the earth to be inhabited you see
To house ALL peoples in health and happiness
A devoted family of friends for all eternity

So, Dante, paint me your portrait,
of happy sinners burning in some unrighteous hell,
let your brush beautifully stroke the lie
that Satan has for centuries... told so very well!

Oh Rich! I'm breathless... to hear such warm and encouraging words from someone I admire and think so highly of... to know you think and feel this way about my work when I am amazed time and time again by YOUR work... happy sigh... thank you hardly seems adequate!

Hi Mary,

Long time no see. This was utterly awesome, beyond words. Best for me:

Is that even a conscious choice we make?
Or a momentary decision to blindly go
beyond the borders of mercy's safekeeping
to the chance of forgiveness we think we know?

A nibble at bliss, a tender kiss,
a female, a foe, a friend, or more than a friend.
a special feeling like this...
But what's the price we pay in the end?
(whatever the price-it is the difference between living and existing-or the difference between life and living death)

Where did the tale get so twisted
That cold was hot, and truth was not
Was life beyond death ever really meant to be
Or just some fable that a serpent's prey forgot

And we, the children, keep believing the lie
And think our ancestors are in heaven, oh swell!
Or hell, but do you really ever imagine Grandma
crying out, suffering, and burning in hell?

For if Grandma's in heaven, why would we resurrect her?
If she's in hell, why wasn't she forgiven?

So much to think about in this piece.

I personally believe in the unknown and undefined God. "FAITH" is everything!

Please never stop writing for us. That would truly be an unforgivable sin.

Mary you are truly gifted and blessed, which I guess are one in the same.

I lift my glass and toast you.

To one of the best, your spirit is immortal!

Thanks,

Rich

What about that robber on the cross with him that went to heaven with him today, or when all the people arose from the ground to ascend into heaven, I believe after Jesus' resurrection, we all resurrected also, I refuse to believe that my grandma is lying in the ground somewhere, freezing, sleeping, only to be awoke at an appointed time. But it's a good poem with lots of emotion, and to each his own(or her) Great write, good job, thanks,

Regina

Interesting Poem.
From the God are blessings to the poets of such a kind kind,
And Holy Spirit with Holy Son with 1000 metamorphoses opening our mind;
Gifted us angel-muses divisions, baptized us modern-classic apostles of poetry:
And this poem is witness, that we only able to approach to Eternity.

I believe that Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us as he says in John14:1-4, "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going."

I believe that when those who have faith in Christ die, they don't go to Heaven as we think of it, at least not right away. Instead, they go into the presence of God (wherever that may be) until Christ returns. 2 Corinthians 5:8 says, "Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord."

Life in Heaven will come after Christ has returned for His people. Revelation 21:1-2 says, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband."

The new heaven he is referring to here, is the sky, complete with stars and planets. But this is a new sky, stars and planets, because the old one we live under now will be destroyed as will the earth. "Then I saw a NEW heaven and NEW earth." He says that God's holy city, the new Jerusalem, will desend onto this new earth out of the new heavens. This is what I believe to be Heaven (a new earth complete with God's capital city, The New Jerusalem.)

Thanks, Guys! I am glad you read it, and within it too. There was a lot said, a lot asked, and a lot of lies exposed in what people have misread in the Bible.

David, I like that scripture as well. I, too, entrust myself into the safekeeping of God who will keep me in his book of remembrance and will resurrect me at the appropriate time. Until then, I will live while I'm blessed with life, and sleep when my time is done.

I want my children to know I am not suffering in some burning hell, nor am I smiling down at them from Heaven while they mourn because God "needed another angel" in Heaven. Really, he already made myriads of them, how easy would it be to simply make another one if he wanted another one, and not take me from my children who need me so?

And Walter, thank you. You know you were the inspiration for this, and I can't thank you enough for continually being my muse. I am honored to be in the presence of such talent here at PnP!

This is so deep and heavy, with so many questions, that I can't even start to get into it.
But there is one scripture that I hold on to and will never let go of:
"For I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return." 2 Timothy 1:12
This is good writing; very inspired and well done.
