His "Home On The Range"
by David Pekrul
copyright 05-09-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

It’s his “Home On The Range”,
You may think it is strange,
With its carnivals, midways and shows,
It’s a circus frontier,
Makes him laugh, makes him cheer,
Why he likes it, well God only knows.

Has a midway so large,
Where he plays for a charge,
Sees the Big Top with lions and bears,
Watches flying Trapeze,
As they do it with ease,
And they don’t even seem to be scared.

And the colourful clowns,
Make him smile, never frown,
As they trip and fall, making him laugh,
And with lions so wild,
But their trainers so mild,
He is terrified on their behalf.

Back when he was a boy,
Didn’t have any joy,
For his parents were fighting all day,
He would hide in his room,
Like a child in the womb,
When the circus came, he ran away.

Now his “Home On The Range”,
Is a life free of pain,
In this circus of laughter and joy,
As he watches the clowns,
Make a smile from a frown,
Every day, he spends being a boy.

How can anyone by-pass this? I know, they just did not get it! But I do! Life is a circus. We all play a role, a character, a part in it, sometimes, a very minuscule part! We do not always know how to play our role, so we struggle and look for avenues to ease our load. I love the manner in which you portrayed this circus. This is our circus! The imagery is tantalizing and captivating, but as in any circus, when it is over, our lives go back to being what they are. This is a sad tale of a boy who could not find happiness in his world and thus had to choose another, in order to be happy! David, I'm sorry no one say through this. Wonderful write, David! I really enjoyed it and actually joined the circus, but for a little bit!
