Just To Be Yourself
by David Pekrul
copyright 05-10-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

The curse of always longing for,
To be somebody else,
When you’re not happy who you are,
Of being just yourself.

The days of always wishing for,
That you could be like them,
The ones who cannot ever lose,
The ones who always win.

The moments always dreaming of,
That everything would change,
You wish and hope your life away,
But all things stay the same.

It’s such a waste of motion, and
It’s such a waste of time,
To live your life through someone else,
It really is a crime.

For you have such potential, and
You have so much to gain,
If you do not succeed in life,
You’ve only you to blame.

The blessing of acceptance, just
To be the one you are,
To live the life God gave to you,
And reach for your own star.

Much wisdom in this piece. While we are busy hoping, wishing and dreaming our lives away,
to be better or bigger than we are, we fail to notice the parts of our everyday lives which never get the chance to shine through.
We should all wake up and smell the coffee. It smells just as good no matter what or who we are.

Good smooth flow to this write.

Rich

See, David? I'm not the only one who gets a lot of inspiration from you! I could sit and read and comment on all of your poems, one after the other, but I'm trying to savor them and make them last.

And isn't it the truth, that no matter how good people have it, so many are always feeling like somebody else has it better. I'm thankful that I have accepted who I am, and I'm liking myself. Sure, I make mistakes, but that's what helps me go on and be even better.

Thanks for another great piece, David!

"now that's what I've been saying, finally somebody else sees this the way I do! I love your work David and I'm glad that you are enjoying your retirement.Thank you for reading and commenting on my stuff, it's no where near as good as what you do, but I'm working on it!Thank you for your insightful pieces. I know you will continue to be an inspiration to me!

Great job! There's nothing....ALMOST nothing, that bugs me more than when people are pretty much perfect the way they are, and then they idolize someone else and try to change themselves to be like that person. We're all perfect in our own way, it's just that not enough people find that out for themselves. People are too much afraid of what other people may think of them, and they're too afraid to show the real them because they are scared of being an outcast, but it's most of those people whom are looked up to the most, hardly any of them are cast down upon. But, what can you do, y'know? People are too...well stupid to realize that....it's annoying, but anyway, I'll stop rambling^^ I really liked this poem though it was one of your better ones....but then again....all your poems are SO good...hm...

Underground existence, I know the scene well, but how do you be yourself when you don't know who you are. I am happy that I'm me, I don't want to be no one else, but I haven't quite got the hang of who I am, but I know I am myself. lol
Great write, good job, nice flow, thanks,

Regina

Well said, on this common spiritual malady. Desire, ambition-- usually healthy, but often a sign that one feels incomplete. Where does it come from? Original sin? Poor parenting? The human condition?
