I Stared Death In The Face

I Stared Death In The Face

I just recently started working part-time in a funeral home and crematorium. It is a most unique experience; not at all what I had imagined it would be.

I stared death in the face today,
It wasn’t my own, it was others,
The ones we cremated or laid in the ground,
The fathers and children and mothers.

I stared death in the face today,
I found it quite peaceful, not scary,
As friends of the family would gather around,
To honour the ones we would bury.

I stared death in the face today,
And thought of a time in the distance,
When I would join those who had gone on before,
And gain my eternal existence.

I stared death in the face today,
It never did catch my attention,
I looked beyond death and could see only life,
In death, I could see no reflection.

I stared death in the face today,
But saw only God’s intervention,
He came here to welcome His precious ones home,
His love is beyond comprehension.

Death is just another step in the adventure of life. It's just more permanent than any other. I'm not afraid of death, only afraid of the pain it causes others who go on living.

This is a really touching piece. Thanks David.

A good write on an unusual theme. Well done.
I also have stared death in the face, but not in the calm surroundings of a funeral parlour.
One of the times I was staring on my own account, it was a very strange experience.
What comes after no one knows, we all have our own ideas.
Whatever it is I think Barry summed it up well in Peter Pan.
'Dying must be an awfully big adventure'.
I hope that it will be.
Brian.

I am not scared of death, I welcome it, what scares me is after death, It's forever, no more death, forever, how scary is that? Great write, good job, thanks,

Regina
