Fearful, I Flee
by Richard Reed Jr
copyright 05-25-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Fearful, I Flee

Fearful, I flee the empty street
Hoping--praying for a double-time demise
Of this strewn-about desolation
Where it ought not be

But there it is
Rubbing its belly on our lives
Winding through our years
Between the hopes and memories
Assimilating dreams and

Rendering rosy desires black
I turn to face its clutching shadows
Who stooping stand aback in deference

To her lightly-scented
Nearby presence
Spinning the room so to catch
My eyes with her beset regard

Swinging wide rusty gates inside
To fill all empty road-ways
With healing warmth

A delicate flower blossom of affection
Gently whirling, whiling
in a careless approaching wind

She stays awhile
We chat
Over tea
And
We

Talk of nothing really
Life and death
Just being

Our desperate words diverting
as murky flood waters along a levee
Until...
Comes the wind and shadows in procession

She touches my face a final time
A doorway closes shutting in a chill

Fearful, I flee the empty street

-sighs-
Richard your talent astounds me. You are, as I have said many times before, a master with words. You know how to use them, how to weave them and produce something beautiful and, in this case, haunting.
Brilliant work again on this one. I love the last stanza when you say the doorway closes shutting in the chill.
-showers him in sakura blossoms, Pocky and shiney things-
Brillant work.
Cheers!

Tiffany
