To My Children
by Heather Jackson (Age: 30)

  To My Children

I dreamt of you, my sweet
In my sleep, I held you in my arms
Cradled you close to my body
Felt your warmth and substance

I dreamt of you, my sweet
In my sleep, I sang in joy for you
Thanked the God who gave me you
Thrilled in your simple existence

I longed for you, my sweet
I longed for the day we would meet
Ached to hold you in my arms
As I’d held you in my dreams

I prayed for you, my sweet
Prayed I’d be strong enough for you
Hoped beyond hope for your sake
To raise you bathed in love

I grieve for you, my sweet
I grieve for the promise of all you are
Brokenhearted that I will never know
The child I cradled close

I grieve for you, my sweet
Though I can’t bear to let you go
I must bury my dreams and desires
Even as I bury my hope

I love you.

This is so sad, so full of emotion and it seems so final. But you and I both know that God has His reasons and He has promised an abundant life to all those who put their trust in Him. You will find your fulfillment in life according to His will.

What a beautiful poem you have written, it is full of emotion.

Thank you for sharing this with us. It is full of pain and emotion that some of us will never know. I'm sorry that you have to know it firsthand. You're in my prayers.

I wrote this as a way to grieve my infertility. I will probably never concieve, and even if I did, the chances I would miscarry...

My husband and I will adopt at some point. But for today, I needed to grieve the children I've longed for but will never have.
